  • BOS Relief Pitcher #22
Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora told reporters on Sunday that Garrett Whitlock (oblique) has yet to be cleared to throw off of a mound.
Cora noted that Whitlock is still feeling his oblique issue a bit, and while he has been playing catch, he’s not quite ready for a throwing progression. There remains no clear timetable for his return to the Red Sox’ rotation.
  • WAS Outfielder #30
Jacob Young is on the bench for the Nationals against the Phillies on Friday.
Young was in the leadoff spot when the Nationals last played on Wednesday. He’s hitting .262 with no home runs this year, but he also has 14 stolen bases in 34 games.
  • WAS Shortstop #5
CJ Abrams is back in the Nationals lineup, batting first against the Phillies on Friday.
Abrams was out of the lineup when the Nationals faced Garrett Crochet and the White Sox on Wednesday. It was a mostly routine day off with a tough matchup for the lefty. Abrams got off to a hot start this season, but is now hitting .205 with one home run and eight RBI over his last 20 games.
  • ARI Center Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll is back in the Diamondbacks lineup, batting second against the Tigers on Friday.
Carroll came off the bench and pinch ran and scored a run on Wednesday. Fantasy managers have to be frustrated with Carroll’s production so far this season as he’s hitting just .193 with a .539 OPS. Only seven qualified hitters have a lower batting average entering play Friday. It’s not what you want from a first round pick.
  • NYY Right Fielder #27
Giancarlo Stanton is back in the lineup, batting fifth for the Yankees against the White Sox on Friday.
Stanton had a routine day off on Thursday with the Yankees playing a day game after a night game. He’s past his prime at this point of his career, but the 34-year-old has still managed to blast nine home runs and 22 RBI in 144 at-bats this year.
  • MIN Catcher #27
Ryan Jeffers is back in the Twins lineup, batting third against the Guardians on Friday.
Jeffers got the day off Thursday with the Twins playing a day game after a night game. Jeffers is enjoying his best season with a .283 average and .979 OPS this year.
  • PHI Second Baseman #5
Bryson Stott is back in the lineup, batting fifth for the Phillies against the Nationals on Friday.
Stott came off the bench on Thursday and had an RBI single and RBI fielder’s choice against the Mets. He’s hitting .280 with a .842 OPS on the season.
  • NYY Second Baseman #26
DJ LeMahieu (foot) will start his minor league rehab assignment Friday with Double-A Somerset.
LeMahieu has been on the injured list since the beginning of the season with a fractured foot. He could be activated by the Yankees as long as he doesn’t suffer another setback.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #54
Cubs placed RHP Colten Brewer on the 15-day injured list with a lower back tightness.
Brewer had a 3.09 ERA with 12 strikeouts and four walks in 11 2/3 innings pitching out of the bullpen for the Cubs. He spent time with the Yankees last year as he’s bounced around after being drafted by the Pirates in the fourth round in 2011. The Cubs recalled Porter Hodge to fill Brewer’s spot while he’s out.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher
Cubs recalled RHP Porter Hodge from Triple-A Iowa.
Hodge will get his first taste of the majors after being drafted by the Cubs in the 13th round back in 2019. He had a 6.55 ERA with 18 strikeouts and 11 walks in 11 innings at Triple-A this season.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #67
Astros recalled LHP Parker Mushinski from Triple-A Sugar Land.
No word yet on a corresponding move. Mushinski has an 11.25 ERA in four appearances with the Astros this season. The 28-year-old has appeared in 24 games with Houston over the past three years and has a 5.88 ERA.
