  • SF Right Fielder #2
Giants placed OF Jorge Soler on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 5, with a right shoulder strain.
The Giants had been taking things day-to-day with their 32-year-old slugger — who has been shelved since last weekend due to soreness in his right shoulder — but on Wednesday they felt it was time to throw in the towel and sit him down rather than playing short-handed any longer. It’s a tough break for fantasy managers in weekly leagues, who may have chanced starting him for that juicy series at Coors Field. Heliot Ramos was recalled in a corresponding move.
  • SEA Right Fielder #8
Dominic Canzone went 1-for-4 with a solo homer as the Mariners topped the Astros 2-1 on Wednesday.
Canzone tied the game at one run with a solo homer off Justin Verlander in the fifth inning. It was the only run Seattle would score through nine innings in Wednesday’s pitcher’s duel before winning it in extras. The 26-year-old outfielder is slashing .203/.262/.492 with five homers and nine RBI across 65 plate appearances.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #68
George Kirby allowed one run with eight strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Wednesday.
After giving up five runs in back-to-back outings, Kirby put together an excellent start against the Astros. Three hits in the fourth would bring the only run across to score for Houston. Kirby scattered three other hits and did not walk a batter, striking out eight over his six innings of work. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 4.08 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 65/6 K/BB ratio across 68 1/3 innings into a start against the Athletics in Oakland on Tuesday.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #35
Justin Verlander allowed one run with nine strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Wednesday.
Verlander scattered three hits and one walk, striking out nine batters for the second consecutive start. The only run the Mariners would score on him came on a solo homer by Dominic Canzone in the fifth inning. The 41-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.26 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 44/15 K/BB ratio across 47 innings. He’ll take on the Cardinals in Houston on Monday.
  • NYY Center Fielder #24
Alex Verdugo went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in the Yankees’ 2-1 win over the Angels on Wednesday.
Despite the Yankees putting five men on base through three frames, they didn’t bring a run in to score until Verdugo’s solo blast off Tyler Anderson to lead off the fourth inning. It was one of only two runs the team would score in Wednesday’s victory. The 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .260/.321/.439 with eight homers and 29 RBI across 221 plate appearances.
  • LAA Catcher #14
Logan O’Hoppe went 1-for-4 with a solo homer against the Yankees on Wednesday.
O’Hoppe scored the only run of the game for the Angels on Wednesday, taking Luis Gil deep for a solo homer in the seventh inning. It was the sixth homer of the season for the 24-year-old backstop. He’s slashing .259/.313/.416 with 25 RBI across 180 plate appearances.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #35
Clay Holmes pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record a save against the Angels on Wednesday.
Holmes was called on in the ninth to close it out with a one-run lead over the Angels. He started the inning with a single and a walk before getting two outs on a ground ball double play. Holmes then got Logan O’Hoppe to ground out to end the game with his 16th save.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #81
Luis Gil held the Angels to one run with nine strikeouts over eight innings to earn the win on Wednesday.
Gil was outstanding once again, holding the Angels to one run over eight frames. He allowed just two hits and two walks, giving up a solo homer to Logan O’Hoppe in the seventh inning. He struck out nine. It was the fifth consecutive start for Gil with at least six innings and no more than one run allowed. The 25-year-old right-hander will take an excellent 1.99 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and a 79/31 K/BB ratio across 63 1/3 innings into a start against the Twins in New York on Tuesday.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #31
Tyler Anderson allowed one run with four strikeouts across five innings in a loss to the Yankees on Wednesday.
Anderson was fortunate to give up just the one run as he battled control issues against the Yankees, allowing six free passes. He walked the bases loaded in the first inning, but was able to escape the jam with a pop out double play and a groundout. Anderson worked around two more hits and a walk in the second. The Yankees would finally get a run in with a solo homer by Alex Verdugo in the fourth. Anderson would pitch a scoreless fifth, again working around a pair of walks, before his day was done at 95 pitches. The 34-year-old right-hander will take a 2.47 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 48/29 K/BB ratio across 69 1/3 innings into a start against the Padres in Anaheim on Monday.
  • COL Shortstop #7
Brendan Rodgers went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in the Rockies’ 7-4 win over the Guardians on Wednesday.
Rodgers went yard for the second time this season in the second inning, taking Logan Allen deep for a two-run homer to extend the Rockies lead. He extends his hit streak to a modest eight games. The 27-year-old second baseman is slashing .266/.307/.356 with two homers, 20 runs scored, and 16 RBI across 199 plate appearances.
  • CLE First Baseman #22
Josh Naylor went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI against the Rockies on Wednesday.
Naylor brought a run in to score in the first inning with a groundout, then knocked a single in the third. He later doubled to lead off the sixth for his second hit of the day. The 26-year-old first baseman has slowed down considerably after a strong April. Still, eight of his 18 hits this month have left the yard. Naylor is hitting .240/.324/.515 with 15 homers and 41 RBI across 225 plate appearances.
