The Angels acknowledged 2024 first-round pick Christian Moore’s ailment Wednesday, calling it a left meniscus injury and saying he might be able to play again this season.
The OCR’s Jeff Fletcher reported that the ailment is a tear and is almost certainly right, but that’s not how the Angels described it. Such tears usually require surgery, whether it’s to remove the cartilage or to repair it. The former has a shorter timetable for return, but that offers no incentive at this point. Moore was hurt last Friday while playing for the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas, but the Angels offered no insight into the injury until tonight.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that free agent right-hander Spencer Turnbull is throwing for interested teams in the hopes of securing a big league deal.
The 32-year-old hurler did a nice job when healthy for the Phillies in 2024, registering a 2.65 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 58/20 K/BB ratio over 54 1/3 innings. With all of the pitching injuries around the league, you’d think there would be at least a few teams giving Turnbull a look to see what he has. Even if he does sign though, it will likely take him at least a few weeks to ramp up and eventually join a starting rotation.
  • MIN 1st Baseman #13
Ty France hit a solo homer in a loss Thursday to the Royals.
France has his second homer of 2025 with a blast off Michael Wacha in the second. The former Mariner infielder has hit a passable .261/.320/.457 while driving in five runs over 13 games. Not bad. Not great, but not bad.
  • KC Shortstop #7
Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-for-3 and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh to help the Royals to a 3-2 win Thursday over the Twins.
Witt also stole a base, and it’s the fourth of the year. The 24-year-old gave Kansas City their 3-2 lead with a sac fly in the seventh, and he’s now plated six over the first 13 games of the year. After a slow start in the March games, Witt Jr. has his slash up to .280/.351/.460.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #53
Carlos Estévez worked a scoreless ninth to get a save Thursday against the Twins.
That’s already the fourth save of the season for Estévez in his first season with the Royals. There are some intriguing options behind the 32-year-old, but it appears Kansas City feels most confident going to Estévez in the ninth inning. That’s likely to continue, especially since he’s allowed just one run over his first six innings.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #17
Bailey Ober allowed just one run over six innings against the Royals on Thursday, but he didn’t qualify for a decision.
Ober has now allowed just two runs over his last two starts, but his ERA is still 7.11 because of his disastrous outing against the Cardinals. He struck out four Thursday, and issued just one walk. Ober will try and keep the good run going against the Mets next week.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #52
Michael Wacha went 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs in a no-decision versus the Twins on Thursday.
Wacha had some control issues with three walks and landing 56-of-88 pitches for strikes, but he allowed just three hits and (mostly) worked around his jams. It’s an improvement on his last outing where he gaveu p four against the Orioles over 5 2/3, and it lowers his ERA to a nondescript 4.20 mark. Wacha will be a risky option over the weekend when he faces the Yankees in New York.
  • CWS Shortstop #85
The White Sox plan to promote top infield prospect Chase Meidroth from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
The 23-year-old has gotten off to a solid start at Triple-A Charlotte, hitting .267 (8-for-30) with three homers, four RBI and a pair of stolen bases through his first nine ballgames. He’ll try to inject some life into a White Sox’ offense that is in desperate need of it. It’s unclear if he’ll play shortstop, second base or a combination of both, but Lenyn Sosa and Jacob Amaya are both at risk of losing playing time here.
  • ATL Right Fielder #13
Ronald Acuña Jr. (knee) is set to meet with his team of doctors early next week with the expectation that he’ll be cleared for lateral movement, quick start/stop running and outfield work.
The Braves are hopeful that after that appointment they should have a better grasp on a timeline for when their superstar outfielder could be ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment. It still sounds like he’s at least a month away from potentially joining the Braves in the best case scenario.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #66
According to Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates plan to recall right-hander Kyle Nicolas from Triple-A Indianapolis prior to Friday’s series opener against the Reds in Cincinnati.
The 26-year-old hurler did a nice job out of the Pirates’ bullpen in 2024, compiling a 3.95 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 55/31 K/BB ratio over 54 2/3 innings in his 51 appearances, so it was surprising when he was left out of the Opening Day bullpen as spring camp broke. He’ll take the roster spot that was vacated when Thomas Harrington was optioned to Triple-A.
  • PHI 3rd Baseman #28
Alec Bohm has been dropped to the seventh spot in the Phillies’ lineup for Thursday evening’s showdown against the Braves.
The slumping 28-year-old third baseman is slashing a woeful .178/.196/.200 with zero homers, three RBI and a 10/1 K/BB ratio through his first 10 games on the season, so it’s understandable why manager Rob Thomson would try to shake things up in his lineup. Nick Castellanos will take his place in the cleanup spot against right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach on Thursday.
