The Angels acknowledged 2024 first-round pick Christian Moore’s ailment Wednesday, calling it a left meniscus injury and saying he might be able to play again this season.
The OCR’s Jeff Fletcher reported that the ailment is a tear and is almost certainly right, but that’s not how the Angels described it. Such tears usually require surgery, whether it’s to remove the cartilage or to repair it. The former has a shorter timetable for return, but that offers no incentive at this point. Moore was hurt last Friday while playing for the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas, but the Angels offered no insight into the injury until tonight.

Brett Baty will be recalled to replace the injured Jesse Winker on the Mets roster, SNY’s Andy Martino reports.
Apparently, that’ll be the case even though Baty has been out since Wednesday with a toe injury. As a result, he’s played in just three games since his Apr. 24 demotion, going 3-for-10 with two doubles.
Managers need 'more clarity' before dropping Trout
Eric Samulski explains why fantasy managers should wait for more information about Mike Trout's knee injury to come out before deciding what to do with him in fantasy.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #36
Former All-Star right-hander Ross Stripling announced his retirement Monday.
Stripling went to his All-Star Game with the Dodgers in 2018, when he finished 8-6 with a 3.02 ERA and a 136/22 K/BB in 122 innings. He also excelled for the Blue Jays in 2022, going 10-4 with a 3.01 ERA, but he’d struggled mightily since, compiling a 2-16 record and a 5.68 ERA between 2023 with the Giants and Athletics. That left him 40-54 with a career 4.17 ERA in 846 1/3 innings at the highest level.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #50
Blue Jays transferred RHP Erik Swanson from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
Swanson recently had a setback with his sore elbow, but an MRI failed to show any structural damage. He’ll be eligible to return during the final week of May, but it’s unclear if that’s realistic or not.
  • MIN 3rd Baseman #23
Twins activated 3B Royce Lewis from the 10-day injured list.
Ready or not, Lewis is back after going 4-for-23 with a double and a 6/0 K/BB in six games for Triple-A St. Paul. He’ll likely split time between third base and DH. Brooks Lee figures to play third when Lewis is DHing and second when Willi Castro is at one of his other positions.
  • MIN Shortstop #50
Twins activated INF/OF Willi Castro from the 10-day injured list.
Castro started 18 of the Twins’ first 19 games before going down with a strained oblique, and though he wasn’t very good while hitting .227/.292/.364, he seems likely to remain a regular for now in light of Edouard Julien’s demotion. He should offer some value in deeper mixed leagues.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #54
Blue Jays signed RHP José Ureña to a one-year contract.
The move was reported on Saturday and is now official. Ureña will likely serve as a multi-inning reliever in the Blue Jays’ bullpen.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #21
Blue Jays optioned LHP Josh Walker to Triple-A Buffalo.
Walker will move to the minors to make room for Jose Urena on the active roster. The left-hander has allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings so far this season.
  • MIN Catcher #11
Twins optioned INF/C Mickey Gasper to Triple-A St. Paul.
Gasper has been filling in sporadically at designated hitter, but will head back to the minors with Willi Castro and Royce Lewis coming back to the Twins’ lineup on Tuesday.
  • MIN 2nd Baseman #47
Twins optioned 2B Edouard Julien to Triple-A St. Paul.
With Willi Castro and Royce Lewis set to return to the lineup on Tuesday, the Twins needed to clear space on the active roster. Julien was starting regularly against right-handed pitching, but hitting just .198 with a 28 percent strikeout rate thanks to his overly passive approach at the plate. Unless he shifts his approach, it’s hard to see him becoming an MLB regular.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #31
Blue Jays transitioned RHP Max Scherzer (thumb) to the 60-day injured list.
Scherzer has been making gradual progress from his thumb injury but remains a ways away from returning to the rotation, so this doesn’t change his timeline at all.
