Royals acquired RHP Joey Krehbiel from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations.
The Royals have made the first two trades of this year’s deadline, acquiring Krehbiel and Adam Frazier. Krehbiel was not on the 40-man roster for Tampa Bay and had posted a 6.11 ERA and 34/10 K/BB ratio in 35 1/3 innings at Triple-A Durham. However, he does also hold a 3.65 career ERA in 74 MLB innings.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #47
Rays reassigned RHP Garrett Acton, C Dominic Keegan, RHP Joey Krehbiel, INF Tre’ Morgan and RHP Ben Peoples to minor league camp.
Krehbiel was signed as a non-roster invite, but the 32-year-old didn’t do enough this spring to justify a 40-man roster spot.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #64
Rays signed RHP Joey Krehbiel to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Krehbiel, 32, is returning to the Rays’ organization after pitching for the team in 2021. The veteran right-hander spent 2024 in the minors with the Mariners and is just a depth piece for 2025.
  • SEA Left Fielder #2
The Mariners optioned OF Cade Marlowe to Triple-A Tacoma; reassigned RHP Joey Krehbiel to minor league camp.
The Mariners have one of the deepest outfields in the majors, so it’s no surprise that Marlowe is being sent down. However, it’s a good problem to have for Seattle since Marlowe put together a solid 2023 season when he was in the majors slashing .239/.330/.420. He’ll be one of the first options for the Mariners to call up if there is an injury in the outfield.

Mariners signed RHP Joey Krehbiel to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Krehbiel will compete this spring for a spot in Seattle’s season-opening bullpen after being cut loose from the Orioles’ 40-man roster earlier this offseason. The 31-year-old righty made 67 appearances over the last three seasons for Baltimore, compiling a serviceable 3.86 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 55/24 K/BB ratio across 70 innings of work.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #52
Orioles RHP Joey Krehbiel elected free agency.
Krehbiel passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week. The 30-year-old righty reliever made 67 appearances over the last three seasons for the Orioles, compiling a serviceable 3.86 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 55/24 K/BB ratio across 70 innings of work. He should be able to latch on somewhere else this offseason as extra relief depth.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #52
Orioles designated RHP Joey Krehbiel for assignment.
Krehbiel, who had a respectable 3.90 ERA in 57 2/3 innings for the Orioles in 2022, wasn’t really ever needed this year and wound up pitching only five innings and allowing one run for the Orioles. He’s 30 and he doesn’t offer much upside, but since he’s making the minimum, some team might grab him here.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #52
Orioles optioned RHP Joey Krehbiel to Triple-A Norfolk.
Krehbiel has been shipped back to the minors to make room for lefty John Means to return for Tuesday’s start against the Cardinals.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #52
Orioles recalled RHP Joey Krehbiel from Triple-A Norfolk.
Krehbiel is back in the majors with rosters expanding to 28 players on Friday. The 30-year-old was respectable with the Orioles last season, but he’s made just two relief appearances in the majors this year. He figures to pitch in middle relief to close out the regular season.
  • BAL Center Fielder #17
The Orioles will recall outfielder Colten Cowser on Friday when rosters expand, reports Roch Kubatko of MASN.
Joey Krehbiel will also be called up on Friday. MLB Pipeline ranks Cowser as Baltimore’s number two prospect and No. 14 in all of baseball. However, Cowser struggled in 26 MLB games with the Orioles, hitting .115 with one stolen base, two doubles, four RBIs, and 22 strikeouts before being demoted. Over 69 games with Triple-A Norfolk, Cowser has batted .314/.440/.524 with 15 doubles, a triple, 12 home runs and 45 RBIs. He will likely remain a bench bat during this stint in the majors.
