There was some talk of this at the Winter Meetings and now Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says doctors have confirmed it: Dan Uggla played through an undiagnosed concussion during the 2014 season.
That might help explain the dreadful .149/.229/.213 batting line Uggla posted in 157 plate appearances between the Braves and Giants, but his struggles at the plate date back to 2013, when he hit all of .179.
The Nationals signed the 34-year-old Friday to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. He could be in line for some playing time at second base if the Nats don’t add another infielder via free agency or a trade.
