Lefty reliever Scott Elbert is back in the big leagues for the first time since August 2012. The Dodgers announced that the club has promoted him from Triple-A Albuquerque and designated pitcher Red Patterson for assignment.

Elbert, 29, had Tommy John surgery in June 2013 and has been recovering ever since. He also underwent an emergency appendectomy in late January this year. In 92 1/3 innings over his career, Elbert has a 3.61 ERA with a 92/41 K/BB ratio.

Patterson, 27, made one start for the Dodgers in the majors this season, which was a 4 2/3 inning stint against the Twins in which he allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out one. He struggled with Albuquerque, posting a 5.79 ERA over 121 1/3 innings.
