First baseman Eric Hosmer is one of a handful of Royals players who could leave via free agency after the 2017 season, but he said he would be open to signing an extension if GM Dayton Moore made an offer, MLB.com’s Jeffrey Flanagan reports.
Hosmer, 26, had the best year of his career in 2015, finishing the regular season with a .297/.363/.459 triple-slash line along with 18 home runs, 93 RBI, and 98 runs scored. Though he only hit .212 in the playoffs, he had some timely moments, including a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 14th inning in Game 1 of the World Series against the Mets.
Hosmer’s teammates Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, Wade Davis, and Alcides Escobar -- among others -- can also become free agents after the 2017 season. Moore said, “We fully expect to sign as many of our players that we currently have on our team to long-term contracts.”
