The Giants activated closer Mark Melancon from the 10-day disabled list on Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. To create roster space, the club optioned utilityman Kelby Tomlinson to Triple-A Sacramento.

Melancon, 32, was placed on the disabled list on May 9 (retroactive to May 6) with a mild right pronator strain. The Giants were planning on activating him on Friday, but the right-hander reportedly felt great after Monday’s 22-pitch bullpen session.

Melancon is carrying a 2.53 ERA with six saves and a 10/1 K/BB ratio in 10 2/3 innings.
