Somewhat surprising news here from Alex Pavlovic of CSNBayArea.com ...
San Francisco acquired Casey McGehee from the Marlins in December to effectively replace Pablo Sandoval at third base, but the 32-year-old woke up Sunday with a brutal .200/.254/.282 batting line and he had tallied just nine RBI in 35 games with the Giants. McGehee drove in 76 runs for Miami last season.
McGehee designated for assignment.

McGehee probably won’t draw any interest on waivers because of the $4.8 million salary he’s due in his final year of arbitration. Giants general manager Bobby Evans said after the transaction was announced Sunday that he hopes McGehee accepts an assignment to the club’s Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento.
Matt Duffy is expected to serve as San Francisco’s everyday third baseman going forward.
