According to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, the Nationals offered free agent outfielder Jermaine Dye a contract, however it wasn’t enough for him to uproot his family to the D.C. area.
Meanwhile, Ben Goessling of MASNSports.com reports that the club hasn’t had discussions with Dye “in a while” and they seem content to move forward with a platoon of Willie Harris and Willy Taveras in right field, based on “sabermetrics analysis.”
Remember, Dye also failed to come to an agreement with the Brewers before the end of spring training, so it would seem that he’s exhausted all of his options by now. The 36-year-old outfielder batted .251/.340/.453 with 27 homers and 83 RBI last season, decent enough numbers overall, however he batted just .179 in 212 at-bats after the All-Star break.
