First baseman Jose Abreu has opted out of his contract with the White Sox and will instead go year-to-year in arbitration for the next three years, CSN Chicago’s Dan Hayes reports. He had three years and $34 million remaining on his contract which was signed in October 2013.

Abreu, 29, hit .293/.353/.468 with 25 home runs and 100 RBI in 695 plate appearances this past season, his third solid season since joining the White Sox. He can potentially make more than three years and $34 million over the next three years in arbitration and he can also potentially negotiate a better multi-year contract extension with the White Sox.
