Marlins, Brewers doing their homework on Allen Craig

Allen Craig had a horrendous 2014 season, batting just .215/.279/.315 with eight home runs and 46 RBI in 126 games between the Cardinals and Red Sox. But he was among the most productive hitters in baseball between 2011-2013, so Boston may find a taker for him on the trade market this winter.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe writes Sunday that the Marlins “have Craig on their list of possible acquisitions as they pursue a right-handed hitter to play first base” and the Brewers are interested in making him a platoon partner with Adam Lind.

Craig is owed $26.5 million over the next three seasons, which would be a bargain if he returned to form. But the 30-year-old hasn’t looked the same since suffering a Lisfranc foot injury in late 2013.
