Mike Trout began his rehab assignment last night, playing his first game since tearing a ligament in his left thumb while sliding into second base on May 28 against the Marlins. He played for High-A Inland Empire in the DH slot. He went 0-for-3.
Outside of the bragging rights for the High-A pitcher who struck Trout out in his second at bat, the results don’t matter much here, obviously, just Trout’s health. On that score he told reporters that he felt “great” physically. Assuming that holds up, Trout should be on track to return to the Angels’ active roster after the All-Star break.
