Chris Kaman is going to be sitting on the Hornets bench until he is traded.
He could be sitting a while.
The Hornets have gotten some calls from teams interested in acquiring the veteran center, reports the Times Picayune. That is different from saying those teams are making offers New Orleans has any interest in.
Since General Manager Dell Demps said this past Friday they intend to trade Kaman, at least five teams have inquired, including Southwest Division rivals the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets.
The problem is the Hornets want young players and picks back for Kaman, which teams are not exactly willing to part with. One of the other five teams was the Golden State Warriors, reports the Contra Costa Times, detailing the situation.
But Golden State, badly in need of a center after Kwame Brown went down with a torn chest muscle, is not a likely suitor because the price is too high. The Hornets want expiring contracts, draft picks and young talent. The Warriors have just one significant expiring contract (Brown, whom they can’t trade yet per league rules), have only second-round picks to offer, and aren’t willing to part with any young talent.
Remember the league (which owns the Hornets right now) drove a hard bargain in the Chris Paul trade. Good luck doing that here. Eventually they may move him but for a lot less than they hoped to get.
