The preseason injuries just keep coming. During the Detroit Pistons’ Sunday afternoon preseason game against the Washington Wizards, second-year shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope suffered a sprained left knee and had to be helped off the court.

Caldwell-Pope had been the Pistons’ starter at shooting guard during the preseason and was expected to take a step forward this year after an inconsistent rookie season. In 24 minutes against the Wizards, he had scored 12 points on 5-for-11 shooting.

The good news is that it’s only a sprain, not a tear or a break. He may miss a few weeks, but this isn’t a season-threatening injury. Unfortunately, regular starting shooting guard Jodie Meeks has also been held out of the preseason with back spasms, making the Pistons incredibly thin at that position.
