Oh, Michael Beasley, just when we think you are getting another chance and maybe getting things together.
Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley was arrested for marijuana possession and speeding in Minnesota last week, according to NBC 11 KARE in Minneapolis/St. Paul.Beasley was pulled over on June 26 for speeding around 3 a.m. on Interstate 394 and Carlson Parkway. He was clocked at 84 mph in a 65 mph zone.
Police also found 16.2 grams of marijuana in Beasley’s vehicle.
Both offenses are petty misdemeanors which will result in fines.
Beasley was not under the influence at the time of his arrest, according to the Star Tribune. Beasley was previously cited for speeding back in February in Minnesota.
The interesting question becomes: Due to the lockout, can the league take any action once the season does resume? The arrest happened prior to the CBA ending, so probably once the next season starts he will face a suspension. (But if a player were arrested tomorrow on the same charge, could the league do anything since the player was not bound by conduct and drug rules in the CBA since there isn’t one?)
Beasley has had a reputation around the league for getting into this kind of trouble. Remember he was tied to use at the Rookie Transition Program in 2008 and a year later had checked into a rehab program after some twitter pictures of him looked like they had bongs in the background. Whispers around the league suggested he never really stopped.
Beasley was traded from Miami to Minnesota last season and put up good but inefficient scoring numbers (19.2 points per game, shooting 45 percent with a very high usage rate) for the Wolves. However, when the team drafted Derrick Williams No. 2 overall it became expected Beasley would be shopped around the league. This will not help his trade value.
