Get a load of the Leafs’ impossibly bad road stats
You can address the Toronto Maple Leafs’ futility in a variety of ways, yet their horrific numbers in road games probably make the biggest impression.
The Columbus Blue Jackets throttled them 5-0 on Wednesday, mercifully ending Toronto’s road run of games (the Leafs have one more home game left before they approach what could be a turbulent summer).
Various reporters tweeted out some jaw-dropping stuff about the Maple Leafs’ ineptitude away from home. Seriously, some of this stuff is pretty stunning.
TSN’s Jonas Siegel shares their record on the road since 2015 began, and it honestly almost looks impossible:
The Leafs are about to fall to 1-21-3 on the road in 2015.— Jonas Siegel (@jonassiegel) April 9, 2015
The Globe & Mail’s James Mirtle shows that it’s not as if the games were particularly close, either:
One simple stat from TSN’s Mark Masters also solidifies that Toronto’s been the worst road team overall:
Fewest road wins in NHL this season:— Mark Masters (@markhmasters) April 9, 2015
Toronto ran into an especially tough opponent in Columbus, as the Blue Jackets are now on a 10-0-1 run. They were basically the perfect opponent to expose a befuddled Maple Leafs team.
Naturally, the woes aren’t road-exclusive, either.
Leafs lose. One game left. Mercifully, it's almost over. Toronto has 11 wins in its last 50 games.— James Mirtle (@mirtle) April 9, 2015
Hey, at least they’re tanking at full speed, though.
