With a freshly minted three-year contract extension, one might worry that Alexander Steen would rest on his laurels. Instead, he matched his career-high for goals in a season by netting No. 23 and 24 on Thursday, helping the St. Louis Blues beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-1.

Steen’s other 24-goal season came in 68 games during the 2009-10 campaign. He hit that mark in half the time this season, as he’s only played in 34 contests so far. If financial security will slow him down, it looks like that will take some time to set in.
