The Pittsburgh Penguins are two wins away from securing their ticket to the Eastern Conference final.
They opened up a two-games-to-none lead on the Ottawa Senators in the best-of-seven semifinal series with a 4-3 win Friday night.
On paper, it may have looked like a dominant performance from the Penguins that simply got close at the end.
The Penguins, led by Sidney Crosby and his hat trick, outshot the Senators 42-22 but had to fend off the visitors in the third period.
Despite the win and the lopsided shot totals, the Penguins weren’t happy with their apparent inability to keep the Senators down for good, particularly with not one but two two-goal leads.
“It probably shouldn’t have been that close of a game but it was because of the Grade-A scoring opportunities we gave them,” Penguins’ defenseman Douglas Murray told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
“We need to be better.”
