Arsenal fans, take a deep breath.
Of all 20 Premier League clubs none has endured the torture that you have this summer. And for that, you deserve beer. Lots and lots of ice cold beer.
For all that talk of gigantic transfer kittys, being able to pay Wayne Rooney-level player wages and Arsene Wenger’s supposed willingness to ditch his youth penchant for big name stars - you have gotten totally skunked.
Goonahs deserve better than Yaya Sonogo. Nothing against the Frenchman - he looks like he could be a real threat in three to four years - but the fact that Arsenal has yet to spend a single solitary dollar in this summer’s transfer market is completely ludicrous.
And now, new Manchester City signing Stevan Jovetic has gone and (at least impliedly) exposed Arsenal for one of their back-rooms biggest downfalls: a lack of love.
Up front we should point out that Jovetic is Montenegrin, so it’s possible that his message got a bit twisted in translation. Nevertheless, we press on.
“It was a long time they wanted me, last year also, and I stayed with Fiorentina,” Jovetic told Manchester City’s official website. “They wanted me more than everyone and I decided to come here.”
City wasn’t the only club tracking Jovetic for over a year, as Arsenal were widely considered leaders to sign the former Fiorentina man, with their interest dating back to last summer.
But apparently for Jovetic, the decision came down to who made him feel more wanted.
Desire. Love. Call it what you will but in today’s money-driven world of footie transfers, a simple ‘want’ goes a long way.
Of course, other elements factored in to Jovetic’s decision with the forward noting that "[City] are fighting for the Premier League and also for the Champions League, and this is the reason I came here.”
For the sake of Arsenal supporters’ sanity, we’ll hold off on reading too much into that one.
