The game in 100 words (or less): Four days after winning the 2016 U.S. Open Cup, FC Dallas were back at it in MLS action on Saturday. Oscar Pareja’s side held a 2-1 lead late into the second half, but New York City FC hit back for an equalizer and a splitting of the points at Yankee Stadium. Tommy McNamara put the home side ahead inside the first 10 minutes, before Maximiliano Urruti and Michael Barrios fired FCD into a lead that lasted deep into the second half. Khiry Shelton bagged the late equalizer, though, which pushes Patrick Vieira’s (45 points) side back ahead of the New York Red Bulls for second place in the Eastern Conference, still a point back of Toronto FC.

Three Four moments that mattered

8' — McNamara slots home for an early 1-0 lead — McNamara may have been offside as Jack Harrison applied the deft touch to bring the ball down and create the chance, but the flag stayed down and NYCFC went 1-0 up.

20' — Urruti roofs it from an impossible angle for 1-1 — Maxi Urruti is audacious as can be with this strike from just about the end line. It didn’t matter, and the score was 1-1.

52' — Barrios finishes a slick move for FCD — Teeny tiny triangles on a teeny tiny soccer field, and FCD are 2-1 just like that.

78' — Shelton heads home Harrison’s gorgeous cross — A ball so beautiful deserves to be headed into the back of the net. Shelton was happy to oblige.
