Now in his second season with New York City FC, the veteran Italian midfielder spoke with Sky Italia about the rapid growth of soccer in America as well as his fascination with living in the United States.
“It was a new league for me, but above all I wanted to come to America,” Pirlo said. “It represents a new and different experience for me in a country that fascinated me. I also got the opportunity to study a new language.
“Football is on the ascendancy here and I decided to come and play a part of it. I love the style of sport in America. Here you come to the stadium with your family and the victory comes second. What counts first and foremost is the sense of people coming together.”
It’s certainly very easy to become attracted to the fast-paced lifestyle in the Big Apple, but the fact that NYCFC has found tremendous success under manager Patrick Vieira surely has made things more enjoyable for Pirlo and his teammates.
