Former Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita hasn’t played all that much this year, moving back to La Liga after a pair of years in China.
But yesterday the Valencia striker wrote his name into the Primera Division record books - by scoring faster than it took you to read these opening sentences.
The 34-year-old fastest goal in La Liga history (according to The Metro) at 7.6 seconds when he snatched a horrible back-pass by Almeria’s Marco Torsiglieri and slotted it into the back of the net.
It didn’t down Almeria, who came back for a 2-2 draw with quickfire goals of their own soon after the halftime break, but Keita’s first goal of his La Liga campaign is sure to provide a highlight.
The record has yet to be confirmed by La Liga officials, but initial timings show it barely beats the former record held by Vallodolid’s Joseba Llorente who bagged one in 7.82 seconds against Espanyol in 2008 (despite the incorrect timer at the top of this video).
