Following their 2-0 defeat to West Ham, Arsene Wenger was frank in his explanation of the game. The defending has to get better.
“Football is a reality show when you’re not there,” Wenger said without a smile on his face. “I believe we defended badly on the first and the second goal, and that put West Ham in a very good psychological situation.”

But for Wenger, it wasn’t just about the defending that struck him as needing vast improvement.
“Overall, I knew that it could be a tricky game against West Ham - they are more advanced in their preparations - but you can’t win if you make basic mistakes, and individually it’s difficult to find convincing performances today.”
The Gunners travel to Crystal Palace next week to take on an Eagles squad fresh off a convincing opening match win over newly promoted Norwich City.
