Odyssey Sims, Kelsey Plum, Julie Allemand, Dearica Hamby and Azurá Stevens will start Sunday’s game against the Mercury.
While Sarah Ashlee Barker has been Rickea Jackson’s replacement in the Sparks starting lineup thus far, the rookie will come off the bench Sunday afternoon. Allemand will start, with Sparks coach Lynne Roberts citing a desire to give Barker some time off due to a long college season, which was followed by a quick transition into the WNBA. Barker is available, but the move to the bench limits an already-low fantasy ceiling.

Paige Bueckers amassed 17 points (7-of-15 FGs), one rebound, six assists, four steals and two three-pointers on Friday in the loss to the Valkyries.
Bueckers found some late, fourth-quarter scoring production on Friday to help her carve out a strong game overall. Of course, her facilitating had a lot to do with why she had success against the Valkyries — she finished with at least six assists for the third straight game. The rookie also tied a career-high in steals and drained a pair of three-pointers. If her three-point production and defensive contributions remain consistent, Bueckers should be able to turn out, at a minimum, solid fantasy production each time she takes the floor.
Highlights: Clark returns, Thomas comes up clutch
Relive the best moments from Wednesday's WNBA action, which saw the Golden State Valkyries spoil Caitlin Clark's return to action, Alyssa Thomas score a career-high 29 points for the Phoenix Mercury and more.
  • Aziaha James added 13 points (5-of-9 FGs, 2-of-4 FTs), three rebounds, one assist and one three-pointer in the Wings’ loss to the Valkyries on Friday.
James was one of two reserve players to find scoring success for the Wings on Friday, finishing as one of four Dallas players to score in double figures. The rookie guard only needed 19 minutes to leave a mark. She was particularly strong as a scorer in the third quarter, where she scored seven points on 3-of-3 shooting. While her production ultimately came in a loss, it’s a good sign for fantasy managers that James was able to find her way in Dallas’ offense.
  • Arike Ogunbowale finished with 16 points (5-of-9 FGs, 3-of-3 FTs), one rebound, three assists, one steal and three three-pointers in Friday’s loss to the Wings.
Ogunbowale logged another solid performance on Friday as she scored in double figures for the second straight game. The veteran guard shot efficiently from the field on somewhat limited volume, while her team-best plus-minus (+3) showed the type of impact she had when on the floor. After struggling in the lead-up to the All-Star Break, Ogunbowale has come out of the break and been productive. She’s averaging 18 over the last two games and will look to land a third-straight productive game on Sunday against the Aces.

Carla Leite tallied 14 points (4-of-6 FGs, 6-of-6 FTs), two rebounds, three assists and one steal in the Valkyries’ win over the Wings on Friday.
Leite scored 11 points in the second half to help the Valkyries overcome a six-point halftime deficit and earn their first win since July 9. The rookie guard’s biggest impact came in the third quarter, where she tallied seven points and was perfect from the field, going 2-of-2, and from the line, 3-of-3. Friday marked Leite’s first double-digit scoring outing in over a month and also the first time she shot 50.0 percent or better from the field since June. A performance like Friday’s could be one to build off of over the back half of the season.
  • Tiffany Hayes finished Friday’s win over the Wings with 17 points (5-of-8 FGs, 5-of-6 FTs), three rebounds, five assists and two three-pointers.
Hayes had a very balanced performance against Dallas. She bounced back from a three-point outing against Seattle by scoring in double figures for the fifth time in July, while tying a season-high in assists along the way. The veteran came up big down the stretch of the game in both areas and was particularly effective at the free-throw line to help Golden State snap a three-game skid and inch closer to a .500 record. Hayes will continue to play a key piece on the offensive end moving forward, especially now that Kayla Thornton (knee) is out for the season.
  • Janelle Salaün totaled 16 points (6-of-14 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs), seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and three three-pointers in Friday’s win over the Wings.
The rookie finished as one of the Valkyries’ leaders in scoring on Friday night. She was the only Golden State player to finish with double-digit shot attempts, and with the high volume came a trio of three-pointers. With Kayla Thornton officially out for the season after undergoing knee surgery, it may open up more opportunities for the rookie forward to take on the primary scoring responsibilities for the Valkyries. She’ll have a chance to land another strong outing against Connecticut on Sunday.
  • After Friday’s win over the Mercury, Liberty guard Natasha Cloud said Emma Meeseman is expected to join the team in August.
At the beginning of the week, the Liberty made a significant move when they signed Meeseman, arguably the best player not currently playing in the WNBA. However, when she could join the team was unknown due to her needing approval for a P-1A visa. Meeseman is expected to join the Liberty sometime next month, which Cloud revealed. When the time comes, New York must free up a roster spot by waiving or trading someone. The WNBA’s trade deadline is August 7. After playing for Fenerbahce, Meeseman helped lead Belgium to the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket title earlier this summer.
  • Alyssa Thomas tallied 20 points (8-of-15 FGs, 4-of-6 FTs), 13 rebounds, eight assists and two steals in Friday’s loss to the Liberty.
Thomas finished Friday’s defeat two assists shy of her second triple-double, attempting to shoulder even more of the offensive workload with Satou Sabally shooting 3-of-12 from the field and 0-of-6 from three. Thomas scored 20 points or more three times in her first season with the Mercury, one more than her tally for the 2024 campaign with the Sun. While Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier is widely acknowledged as the favorite to win WNBA MVP honors, and rightfully so, Thomas has played well enough to appear on some ballots at the end of the season if she continues on her current path.
  • Natasha Mack accounted for nine points (4-of-4 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), two rebounds, one steal and two blocks in Friday’s loss to the Liberty.
The Mercury made a late change to their starting lineup, with Mack stepping in for Kathryn Westbeld. During the game, it was announced that Westbeld was dealing with an illness and would be an “emergency option” if needed. Mack only played 18 minutes despite starting, but she offered solid value as a scorer and defender. Westbeld’s absence also impacted DeWanna Bonner (9/4/2/1 with two three-pointers) and Satou Sabally (6/5/3), as the Mercury went with a smaller lineup whenever Mack was not on the floor. Phoenix visits Washington on Sunday, and another start could be in the cards for Mack if Westbeld is unavailable.
  • Monique Akoa Makani (concussion) finished Friday’s loss to the Liberty with nine points (4-of-10 FGs, 0-of-2 FTs), two rebounds, four assists, one block and one three-pointer.
Akoa Makani returned to the Mercury starting lineup after missing two games due to a concussion. While she didn’t have her best night shooting the basketball, the assist production was solid for the rookie point guard. As Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts said before the game, Akoa Makani played her usual minutes, logging 24. Sami Whitcomb played 24 minutes off the bench but struggled, shooting 2-of-9 from the field and finishing with six points, two rebounds, three assists and one three-pointer.
