Caitlin Clark tallied 20 points (6-of-12 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), one rebound, six assists, two steals and four three-pointers in the Fever’s win over the Sun.
Clark remained sharp in her second game back from injury, following a season-high 32 points with her third 20-point game of the season. The reigning Rookie of the Year displayed the type of three-point shooting that has made her one of the most dangerous players in the game, while continuing to use the defense’s aggression to set up teammates for easy baskets. The large margin of victory limited Clark to under 30 minutes of gameplay on Tuesday and prevented her from accumulating greater stats, but she still found solid fantasy production. Indiana faces Golden State on Thursday.

Storm signed Zia Cooke to a rest-of-season contract.
Less than two weeks removed from being traded to the Mystics as part of the Brittney Sykes trade, Cooke is back with the Storm. The 5-foot-9 guard appeared in 24 games before being traded, averaging 3.3 points in 10.4 minutes. Waived by the Mystics immediately after the trade, Cooke returns to Seattle, where she’ll look to provide additional depth off the bench.
Highlights: Clark returns, Thomas comes up clutch
Relive the best moments from Wednesday's WNBA action, which saw the Golden State Valkyries spoil Caitlin Clark's return to action, Alyssa Thomas score a career-high 29 points for the Phoenix Mercury and more.
  • Aziaha James added nine points (4-of-14 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), eight rebounds, four assists, and one steal during the Wings’ Sunday afternoon loss to the Aces in 22 minutes of play.
While James didn’t hit double-digits scoring, she stuffed the stat sheet in many other different statistical categories. She scored her points mostly on driving layups, out-running the Aces defense in transition. Also, she led the Wings in rebounding. James succeeded finding her teammates in advantageous situations where they either had mismatches or space they had created on off-ball movement.
  • Jewell Loyd had contributed 12 points (4-of-11 FGs), one rebound, three assists, one steal, and four three-pointers in 25 minutes of play off the bench in the Aces’ Sunday win over the Wings.
Loyd led the Aces’ bench in scoring, which was part of the whole idea in moving her there in the first place. She hit four three-pointers, including a step-back and a bunch of catch-and-shoot shots. Chelsea Gray hit Loyd with a behind the back pass right exactly in her shooting pocket on the left wing. Loyd also had three assists of her own to Bell, Gray and Dana Evans and found them all without Wings defenders near them.
  • NaLyssa Smith finished with 14 points (4-of-8 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), four rebounds, one assist, and two three-pointers in 21 minutes of play in the Aces’ Sunday win over the Wings.
Smith did all of her damage in the fourth quarter, where she scored all of her 11 points. Chelsea Gray found Smith on a mismatch which allowed her to drive and score on the smaller Aziaha James. Later in the quarter when Wilson was almost triple teamed, she made the horizontal pass to a cutting Smith to her right. Smith’s final two scores were open three-pointers that Gray and Jackie Young found her for without a Wings defender in sight.
  • Chelsea Gray recorded her second double-double of the season during the Aces’ Sunday afternoon win over the Wings, notching 10 points (3-of-6 FGs, 3-of-3 FTs), two rebounds, 14 assists, one steal, and one three-pointer in 32 minutes of play.
There have been moments this season when Gray hasn’t looked like a point guard but rather has looked like a shooting guard that occasionally distributes the basketball. She returned to her point guard form on Sunday, dishing out 14 total assists, her highest total of the season. Gray found four different teammates on Sunday afternoon as she connected with A’ja Wilson on half of her assists in addition to Jewell Loyd on three of them, and then Kiersten Bell and NaLyssa Smith for two of their own. Almost 43 percent of Gray’s assists were catch-and-shoot three-pointers where Gray just made the extra pass. She found Wilson all over the floor in many of her different kill zones but especially in the middle of the paint.
  • Paige Bueckers contributed 18 points (8-of-18 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), five rebounds, four assists, and one steal during the Wings’ Sunday afternoon loss to the Aces in 29 minutes of play.
While Bueckers was less efficient than usual on Sunday, she still contributed at a high level to the Wings’ offense. The majority of her made baskets came off drives to the rim cutting off the ball, with Bueckers able to outrun Jackie Young in quarter court sets. While most of Bueckers’ scoring happened off the ball, she made sure she was also creating for her teammates. Her four assists were to four different teammates in Haley Jones, Maddy Siegrist, Aziaha James and Luisa Geiselsöder. Bueckers found them all either on mismatches or in transition. Bueckers’ final assist was to Geiselsöder with 8:34 left in the third quarter, and Aces coach Becky Hammon was so angry by how open Geiselsöder was that she took an immediate timeout.
  • Kiersten Bell set a career high in threes during the Aces’ Sunday afternoon win over the Wings, tallying 18 points (6-of-7 FGs), six rebounds, one assist, one steal, and six three-pointers in 28 minutes of play.
While she struggled guarding Maddy Siegrist, the Wings left Bell wide open for each of her made shots. Three different Aces players in Chelsea Gray, Jewell Loyd and then NaLyssa Smith all helped Bell hit her three first quarter three-pointers. After the first quarter, Gray, Dana Evans and Jackie Young all made the extra pass to Bell and as a result she cashed the remaining three shots as well.
  • Maddy Siegrist accumulated 23 points (11-of-15 FGs), six rebounds, one assist, two steals, two blocks and one three-pointer during the Wings’ 106-87 loss to the Aces on Sunday.
Sigriest took advantage of how the Aces guarded her from the beginning of the game. Las Vegas wing Kiersten Bell was responsible for Siegrist at moments but that backfired when Siegrist used her long arms to shoot over her. Siegirst boxed out the smaller Las Vegas guards that were assigned to guard her. As a result, Siegrist had three offensive rebounds and scored on two of them.
  • Jade Melbourne contributed 11 points (4-of-7 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), two rebounds, four assists, one steal, one block and one three-pointer in 24 minutes of play during the Mystics’ 95-86 loss to the Sparks on Sunday.
Melbourne was efficient in her opportunities to score the basketball. She hit an open three-pointer on a cross-court pass from Emily Engstler, and took both Kelsey Plum and Dearica Hamby off the dribble for scores. Her four assists were to Stefanie Dolson, who made a wide open three-pointer above the break, Shakira Austin who scored on a drive, Sonia Citron with a transition three-pointer and Kiki Irafen taking down Hamby within the paint, using her footwork to out-master the veteran.
  • LAS G-F #12
Rae Burrell added 10 points (3-of-4 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), two assists, one steal, and two three-pointers during the Sparks’ Sunday afternoon 95-86 loss to the Mystics.
Burrell played the most minutes out of any Sparks reserve, appearing in 17 minutes coming off the bench. She didn’t miss from three and made all but one of her four shots. All of her made field goals came on assists from Kelsey Plum, Julie Vanloo and Rickea Jackson where they all used Burrell as a floor spacer from beyond the arc. Burrell continues to establish herself as a wing connector, someone who has sound enough judgment to pass the ball in rhythm and in high pressure situations.
