Shakira Austin powered the Mystics during Tuesday night’s 68-64 win over the Lynx contributing 19 points (7-of-18 FGs, 5-of-6 FTs), eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in 28 minutes of play.
Austin continues to go on a tear coming off her eastern conference player of the week honors. Austin made a bunch of difficult and acrobatic shots through multiple Lynx defenders in the first half. Austin was her most successful when she was guarded by less athletic and less lengthy post players in Jessica Shepard and Maria Kliundikova. The Lynx had trouble keeping up with Austin’s drives coming off closeouts. Austin read the defense well in the second half, drawing two and passing instead of trying to score through multiple Lynx defenders. Her final field goal, an offensive rebound putback in the fourth quarter, tied the game at 64 with 32 seconds remaining in regulation.

Caitlin Clark (groin) is out for Tuesday’s game against the Liberty.
Clark, who injured her right groin during a June 15 win over the Sun, will miss a second straight game. She strained her left groin earlier this season and also missed time due to a strained left quad. The injuries have limited the Fever star to 13 games this season after not missing any during the 2024 campaign. Aari McDonald replaced Clark in the starting lineup for Indiana’s July 16 loss to the Liberty and should take on the point guard duties in Tuesday’s rematch.
Highlights: Clark returns, Thomas comes up clutch
Relive the best moments from Wednesday's WNBA action, which saw the Golden State Valkyries spoil Caitlin Clark's return to action, Alyssa Thomas score a career-high 29 points for the Phoenix Mercury and more.
  • Jonquel Jones (ankle) is not on the injury report for Tuesday’s game against the Fever.
Jones said before New York’s final game prior to the All-Star break, a July 16 win over the Fever, that she expected to be available when the teams met again on July 22. That’s how things have played out, with the Liberty submitting a clean injury report. Averaging a team-best 9.6 rebounds per game on the season, Jones has been out since suffering a second ankle injury during a June 19 game against the Mercury. While her return may push Nyara Sabally to the bench, fantasy managers should not expect Jones to take on a full workload in her first game back.
  • ESPN’s Alexa Philippou reported Monday that Emma Meeseman is expected to sign with the Liberty.
While the Liberty officially signed Stephanie Talbot on Monday, the reports that the team has also landed Meeseman may be more impactful in the team’s pursuit of a second consecutive WNBA title. Despite having last played in the league in 2022 as a member of the Mystics, the 6-foot-4 forward has long been one of the best players in the world. After another stellar season playing for Fenerbahce in Turkey, Meeseman helped lead Belgium to the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket title earlier this summer. According to Philippou, Meeseman also considered Minnesota and Phoenix. When she can join the Liberty will depend on the speed of the visa application process. Still, Meeseman will give the Liberty another talented option to call upon in the frontcourt.
  • Liberty signed G/F Stephanie Talbot to a rest-of-season contract.
Talbot will fill out the Liberty’s 12 person roster for now as the Liberty previously waived second year guard Marquesha Davis prior to the midpoint deadline. She takes the roster spot of Davis, a player who struggled to crack the Liberty’s rotation. Talbot has familiarity with Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello, who drafted her into the WNBA and then coached her not only on the Phoenix Mercury but also on the Australian National team. Talbot is a switchable wing who will join the Liberty’s rotation as a player able to guard the two through four positions while also stretching the floor and adding some playmaking. This combination is one that the Liberty have missed with Betnijah Laney-Hamilton being sidelined for the entire season after tearing her meniscus earlier this year.
  • Fever coach Stephanie White said she does not expect Caitlin Clark (groin) to be available for Tuesday’s game against the Liberty.
Clark injured her groin during Indiana’s penultimate game before the All-Star break and did not participate in All-Star Weekend activities in Indianapolis. With this being her third lower-body injury of the season, one can expect Indiana to exercise significant caution with its star point guard. Sophie Cunningham moved into the starting lineup for the Fever’s loss to New York in the final game before the break, and Lexie Hull is another possible option to step in for Clark.
  • Skylar Diggins recorded the first-ever triple-double in WNBA All-Star Game history on Saturday, spearheading Team Collier’s 151-131 win over Team Clark by tallying 11 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists in 21 minutes.
Diggins’ 15 assists established a new All-Star Game record as part of a sublime triple-double performance. The 34-year-old guard found her Seattle Storm teammate Nneka Ogumike for four of her 15 dimes, while also dishing out another three assists to All-Star MVP Award recipient Napheesa Collier. Diggins and Collier both broke WNBA records on one individual play that occurred with 5:32 left in the fourth quarter. Diggins notched her 12th assist on a pass to Collier that then created her final points which allowed her to pass Arike Ogunbowale’s 34-point All-Star game scoring record.
  • Napheesa Collier was crowned the WNBA All-Star Game MVP in Team Collier’s 151-131 win over Team Clark, amassing 36 points (13-of-16 FGs, 6-of-6 FTs), nine rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and four three-pointers over 19 minutes.
Collier, who also served as a captain for one of the teams, finished the night with one of the most efficient and dominant performances in recent memory. Minnesota’s scoring machine set a new All-Star Game record with 36 points, breaking the previous record (34) established last year by Arike Ogunbowale. The 28-year-old forward became the first player in the game’s history to notch a 30-point performance by shooting at least 70 percent from the field.
  • Sabrina Ionescu won Friday’s Starry 3-Point Contest, tallying 30 points in the final round.
The two most recent 3-Point Contest champions took center stage for the championship round of 2025’s event, and it was Ionescu who made the required shots to reclaim her crown. She scored 25 points in the first round before draining her first 11 shots of the final round en route to a championship-winning 30 points to defeat the reigning champion Allisha Gray. Ionescu is enjoying another outstanding fantasy basketball season and should remain productive over the second half of the season.
  • Natasha Cloud won Friday’s Kia Skills Challenge, finishing both the first and championship rounds with the fastest time.
Cloud finished the opening round with the fastest time, which allowed her to be the last contestant in the championship round. After watching the Storm’s Erica Wheeler finish the course in 37.5 seconds, Cloud started fast and then darted through the home stretch to finish 1.1 seconds faster than Wheeler and earn the title. The veteran guard has been a major contributor to the defending champion Liberty’s strong first half of the season and will continue to be key over the second half.
  • Caitlin Clark (groin) will not compete in Friday’s three-point contest or Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game.
Clark injured her groin late in Tuesday’s win over the Sun, the third time this season the second-year guard has suffered a lower-body injury. She did not play in Wednesday’s loss to the Liberty, Indiana’s final game before the All-Star break, and will also miss this weekend’s All-Star Weekend festivities in Indianapolis. How much time Clark will miss beyond the All-Star game has yet to be determined. However, with this being her second groin injury of the season, the Fever will likely exercise significant caution in getting Clark back onto the court. Washington’s Brittney Sykes will fill the resulting void in the All-Star Game.
