Injured USF Kicker May Avoid Surgery

A 35-foot fall from an amusement park ride may not result in surgery for South Florida kicker Maikon Bonani, the St. Petersburg Times is reporting.

At some point this week, doctors will determine whether or not a brace can allow the broken vertebra in his back to heal on its own without the need of a medical procedure.

Regardless, it’s highly unlikely Bonani will be available for the 2009 season. Bonani’s high school coach intimated to the paper that the kicker will be redshirted regardless of the course of treatment.

For those who missed it, or have short-term memory loss, Bonani was working on a Skyride at Busch gardens in Florida when he fell from a gondola.
