Five days after losing an assistant from his Miami coaching staff, it appears Al Golden has found a replacement. And, as it turned out, he didn’t have to leave the state to do so.
According to both CanesInsight.com and the Palm Beach Post, Golden has hired Randy Melvin as his new defensive line coach. That particular vacancy opened up when Jethro Franklin left The U for a job with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders.
Melvin spent the 2014 season as the line coach at Florida International. Prior to his one-year stint at FIU, his last job at the collegiate level came in 2010 at Rutgers.
Other collegiate stops came at Temple (2009), Rutgers again (2002-04), Purdue (1997-99) and Wyoming (1995-96). He’s also spent a total of nine seasons as an assistant at the professional level, including eight in the NFL.
