Academic issues cost Montori Hughes a shot at playing in Tennessee’s regular-season finale against Kentucky last year.
Now Hughes’ actions -- or inaction as the case may be -- appears to have cost him a shot of ever playing with the Volunteers.
The Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that the defensive tackle is no longer a member of the UT football team. A school spokesperson confirmed the development to the paper.
No specific reason or reasons were given for what is apparently a dismissal from the program.
In addition to the academic issues last year, Hughes was also one of a handful of Vols players reportedly involved in the infamous bar brawl in July of 2010.
Last season, Hughes started six games and played in a total of 11. As a true freshman in 2009, the Murfreesboro, Tenn., product played in all 13 games.
