  • CLE Starting Pitcher #32
Gavin Williams (elbow) has been shut down from throwing for at least one week after experiencing renewed discomfort.
Not good. Williams has been on the shelf since spring training due to right elbow inflammation and appeared to be getting close to making his season debut prior to this latest setback. The 24-year-old top pitching prospect should be ready to resume throwing next week after receiving a PRP injection. However, there is no official timetable for his return at this juncture.
  • WAS Shortstop #5
CJ Abrams has been scratched from the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Guardians due to shoulder soreness.
It’s worth noting that Abrams remained in during Friday’s contest after jamming his shoulder attempting to make a play defensively. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern, but the Nationals clearly don’t want to take any chances here and are holding him out for precautionary reasons. The 23-year-old emerging star has been in a rut the last few days, going hitless (0-for-14) with eight strikeouts over his last three games. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the moment.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher
Braves promoted RHP prospect Huston Waldrep to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Waldrep finds himself on the doorstep to the majors after a dominant run at Double-A Mississippi to open the season. The 22-year-old first-round pick from the 2023 MLB Draft posted a stellar 2.92 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 48/17 K/BB ratio across 49 1/3 innings (nine starts). There are still some lingering control issues to iron out, especially if he’s going to be an upper-echelon starter at the highest level, but Waldrep has some of the best raw stuff of any pitching prospect in baseball headlined by a dynamite splitter.
  • LAA First Baseman #18
Nolan Schanuel (thumb) remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Mariners.
Schanuel remains on the bench for Saturday’s contest after being scratched from Friday’s lineup due to left thumb soreness. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern at the moment. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • MIL Relief Pitcher #56
Brewers recalled RHP Janson Junk from Triple-A Nashville.
Junk provides Milwaukee’s bullpen with some extra long relief depth for the remainder of their weekend series against the White Sox. The 28-year-old righty has made three relief appearances this season for the Brewers.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #36
Brewers optioned RHP Tobias Myers to Triple-A Nashville.
Myers retreats to the minors after allowing five runs over 5 1/3 frames on Friday in a no-decision against the struggling White Sox. The 25-year-old righty has intriguing stuff, but it hasn’t translated to the majors yet as he holds a lackluster 5.40 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 27/10 K/BB ratio across 26 2/3 innings (seven appearances, six starts). He remains a work in progress and figures to be up-and-down for Milwaukee over the next few months.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #34
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Saturday that Kodai Senga (shoulder) has yet to progress to a bullpen session.
Mendoza adds that Senga is still playing light catch and there is no plan yet for him to advance to throwing off a mound. The 30-year-old righty has been out all season recovering from a right shoulder injury and remains without a definitive timeline to return.
  • OAK Starting Pitcher #46
Luis Medina (knee) will start on Sunday against the Braves.
Medina has wrapped up a minor league rehab assignment and will take the ball for Sunday’s series finale in Atlanta. The 25-year-old righty will be making his season debut after missing the first two months of the year recovering from a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #71
Padres recalled RHP Logan Gillaspie from Triple-A El Paso.
Gillaspie provides San Diego with some extra bullpen depth with Yu Darvish (groin) and Joe Musgrove (triceps) landing on the shelf ahead of Saturday’s game against the the Royals. The 27-year-old righty has made a pair of scoreless relief appearances this season for the Padres.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #11
Padres placed RHP Yu Darvish on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain.
Darvish was originally believed to be dealing with a hamstring issue, but it turns out to be a groin strain that will keep him sidelined for at least a few weeks. The 37-year-old righty lasted just three innings on Wednesday against the Marlins before exiting due to hamstring tightness and holds a solid 3.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 53/15 K/BB ratio over 56 1/3 innings (11 starts) this season. There should be a clearer timetable for his return at some point in the coming days.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #62
Phillies claimed RHP Freddy Tarnok off waivers from the Athletics.
Tarnok has been activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley where he’ll function as extra organizational pitching depth. The 25-year-old righty has made six appearances (one start) in the majors over the last three years.
