  • COL First Baseman #4
Michael Toglia will serve as the Rockies’ 27th man for this weekend’s Mexico City series against the Astros.
Toglia stuck around with the Rockies earlier this week after being optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque and could potentially get into a game this weekend down in Mexico City before heading back to the minors.
  • SF Shortstop #16
Nick Ahmed was removed from Thursday’s game against the Rockies with left wrist discomfort.
Ahmed was forced to leave Thursday’s showdown after an awkward swing earlier in the contest. The 34-year-old defensive wizard’s absence would likely result in former top prospect Marco Luciano coming back to the majors, if he winds up requiring a trip to the injured list.
  • STL Catcher #40
Willson Contreras underwent successful surgery on Thursday to repair a fractured left forearm.
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters Contreras is likely to miss upwards of 10 weeks, rather than the 6-8 week timetable the veteran backstop provided earlier this week. The 31-year-old figures to be on the shelf until sometime right around the All-Star break in mid-July.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher
Angels recalled RHP Kelvin Cáceres from Triple-A Salt Lake; placed him on the 60-day injured list.
No word yet on the reason for the move, but it does open up a spot on Los Angeles’ 40-man roster for the club to claim versatile utility specialist Niko Goodrum from the Rays. The 24-year-old righty made a pair of late-season relief appearances last year for the Angels.
  • LAA Second Baseman #0
Angels claimed INF/OF Niko Goodrum off waivers from the Rays.
Goodrum provides the Angels with some extra position player depth at Triple-A Salt Lake. The versatile 32-year-old veteran was removed from Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster earlier this week after just 37 plate appearances this season in the big leagues.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
Bryan Woo (elbow) will start on Friday against the Athletics.
Woo will make his return to Seattle’s starting rotation after missing the opening six weeks of the regular season recovering from right elbow inflammation. The 24-year-old righty was sharp in his latest rehab start for Triple-A Tacoma with six strikeouts over five scoreless frames and shouldn’t have any workload restrictions in his season debut. It’s an extremely tasty matchup, which makes Woo a viable option for fantasy managers in all formats right out of the gate.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #41
Yankees claimed RHP Colby White off waivers from the Yankees.
White will head to Double-A Somerset as extra relief depth for New York after being jettisoned from Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster earlier this week. The 25-year-old reliever has yet to pitch in the majors after undergoing Tommy John surgery back in 2022. He’s an interesting lottery ticket for the Yankees.
  • CIN Third Baseman #3
Jeimer Candelario hit a solo homer Thursday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.
Candelario got the Reds on the board with a solo blast off Slade Cecconi in the fifth inning. The 30-year-old has driven in just 12 runs over 36 games in 2024, and the homer is the fourth of the year. Better things should be ahead for Candelario in the coming months, if not sooner.
  • ARI Center Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll knocked in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning Thursday to help the D-Backs to a 5-4 win over the Reds.
In what has been a very disappointing season for Carroll, the 23-year-old came up big Thursday with an RBI single to score Tucker Barnhart that broke a 4-4 tie and ultimately gave Arizona the victory. The 23-year-old was one of the best fantasy players regardless of age, and while his .206/.300/.270 slash is anything but ideal, there’s obvious reasons to believe he’ll bounce back considerably in the summer months.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #38
Paul Sewald threw a scoreless inning to pick up a save Thursday against the Reds.
Sewald has his first save of the season after missing the first month-plus of the season with an oblique strain. The right-hander looked good while picking up the save with two strikeouts, no hits allowed and 8-of-11 offerings landing for strikes. Sewald should see the bulk of save chances for Arizona now that he’s back healthy.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #43
Slade Cecconi held the Reds to one run Thursday while working 5 1/3 innings, but didn’t factor into the decision.
Cecconi allowed three hits, and he walked two against two strikeouts. The right-hander’s only run allowed came on a Jeimer Candelario homer in the fifth inning, and outside of that he didn’t deal with much traffic. The 24-year-old lowers his ERA to 4.15 with the strong — if not always spectacular — outing, and he’ll have a rematch with the Reds next week, assuming Arizona doesn’t make changes to the rotation.
