  • PHI Starting Pitcher #55
Ranger Suárez gave up a run in eight innings of work with eight strikeouts to pick up a win over the Padres on Saturday.
Suárez entered Saturday with 25 consecutive scoreless innings, and that streak ended in the eighth when Eguy Rosario took the southpaw deep for a solo shot. That’s a little disappointing, but it’s another outstanding start for the 28-year-old, and he now possesses a 1.32 ERA for his trouble. We’ve seen Suárez have down periods after some flashes of brilliance, but to say he looks the part to begin 2024 is an understatement and then some. He’s a must-start against the Giants on Friday.
  • DET Shortstop #28
Javier Báez is not in the Tigers’ starting lineup for Saturday’s matchup against the Astros.
It’s starting to get to the point where it’s surprising that the 31-old-shortstop still has a job, despite the massive amount of money remaining on his contract with the Tigers. He’s now hitting a miserable .170/.207/.232 with just one homer, 12 RBI, six stolen bases and a 26/5 K/BB ratio over 121 plate appearances on the season. Zach McKinstry will start in his place at shortstop and will bat eighth against Cristian Javier and the Astros.
  • DET Second Baseman
Tigers signed INF Riley Unroe to a minor league contract.
Unroe has bounced around between a couple organizations in the upper minors the last few years, but has yet to get a shot in the majors. The 28-year-old infielder will head to Triple-A Toledo as extra organizational depth.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #85
Cubs acquired RHP Jake Wong from the Reds for cash considerations.
Wong made one relief appearance last year for the Reds and will head to the Cubs as extra organizational pitching depth.
  • HOU Left Fielder #30
Kyle Tucker is not in the Astros lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Tigers.
It’s Tucker’s first day off this season. The 27-year-old fantasy superstar clobbered his 12th round-tripper of the season during Friday’s series-opening win over the Tigers. He holds a career-best .965 OPS with a league-leading 12 homers through 38 contests.
  • STL Designated Hitter #13
Cardinals activated DH Matt Carpenter from the 10-day injured list.
Carpenter rejoins St. Louis’ struggling offensive mix following a five-week absence recovering from a right oblique strain. The 38-year-old can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats at this stage of his career.
  • STL Shortstop #15
Cardinals optioned INF José Fermín to Triple-A Memphis.
Fermín has been shipped back to the minors with veteran Matt Carpenter returning from the injured list for Saturday’s game against the Brewers.
  • TB Right Fielder #15
Josh Lowe is not in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Yankees.
Lowe has gone 4-for-13 through four contests since making his season debut earlier this week. He’ll take a seat on Saturday afternoon with crafty left-hander Nestor Cortes on the mound for New York. The 26-year-old fantasy stalwart figures to continue sitting against southpaws, but will do enough damage against right-handed pitching to make up for it.
  • SF Center Fielder #51
Jung Hoo Lee (foot) remains absent from the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Reds.
There was optimism Lee would be ready to return this weekend, but it sounds like he’s going to get some extra time to rest and recover from some lingering foot soreness. The positive news here is that the 25-year-old rookie outfielder hasn’t landed on the injured list, but he’s out of the lineup for a third straight contest. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be Tyler Fitzgerald drawing another start in center field.
  • SF Second Baseman #0
Giants recalled INF/OF Brett Wisely from Triple-A Sacramento.
Wisely provides San Francisco with some extra bench depth heading into Saturday’s contest against the Reds with veteran Austin Slater landing on the concussion injured list. The 25-year-old got into 51 contests last year for the Giants, but has spent all of this season back at Triple-A Sacramento.
  • SF Catcher #14
Giants activated C Patrick Bailey from the 7-day concussion injured list.
Bailey is back for Saturday’s showdown against the Reds following a one-week absence following an early exit from a game due to blurred vision. The 24-year-old backstop has cleared concussion protocol and will return to his role as San Francisco’s starting catcher.
