  • MIA Starting Pitcher #29
Marlins activated LHP Braxton Garrett (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list.
Garrett finished up his rehab with an outing in the Florida Complex League where he stuck out 13 batters across 5 2/3 innings. Even though that was against low-level competition, it looks like Garrett is ready to go to get back in the mix for the Marlins and make his season debut in the coming days.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #72
Cody Poteet is likely to start on Saturday against the Giants.
It’ll likely be a spot start for Poteet initially as he’ll take the ball in place of an injured Clarke Schmidt (lat), but he could wind up getting a longer look in New York’s starting rotation with Schmidt shut down from throwing for at least 4-6 weeks and Gerrit Cole (elbow) still several weeks away. The 29-year-old righty made a spot start back in mid-April, allowing one run over six innings against the Guardians.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #23
Zac Gallen left Thursday’s start against the Mets with a trainer after just six pitches.
Not good. The positive news here, if that’s at all possible, is that his abrupt exit doesn’t appear to be arm-related. Gallen was limping slightly, but was able to walk off with a trainer after facing just one batter during Thursday’s series opener against the Mets. There should be an update on his status shortly.
  • NYY Shortstop #11
Anthony Volpe will carry a 21-game hitting streak into Thursday’s series finale against the Angels.
Volpe can surpass Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte for the longest hitting streak in the majors this season with another knock during Thursday’s series finale in Los Angeles. The 23-year-old shortstop’s offseason overhaul to his swing and offensive approach have resulted in a robust .288 batting average to go along with six homers and 11 stolen bases. He’s recorded at least one hit in 21 straight contests since May 7. He’s a long way from Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game streak, but it’s an interesting wrinkle for fantasy managers to continue monitoring.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #40
Josiah Gray (elbow) faced hitters on Thursday in a 76-pitch live batting practice session.
Gray appears to be getting close to rejoining Washington’s starting rotation as he continues working his way back from a flexor strain in his right elbow. The big question now is whether he’ll require a minor league rehab assignment or jump right back to the majors. He’ll likely need at least one minor-league tune-up before returning at some point in June.
  • HOU Third Baseman #2
Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer on Thursday, powering the Astros to a 4-0 victory over the Mariners.
Bregman broke up a scoreless stalemate with a fourth-inning shot -- his sixth round-tripper of the season -- to left field off Mariners ace Logan Gilbert. He also tripled and scored a run in the sixth inning to cap off a multi-hit performance. The 30-year-old impending free agent has gone deep twice in his last three games since being dropped to the fifth spot in Houston’s lineup.
  • SEA Shortstop #3
J.P. Crawford walked twice and stole a base on Thursday in the Mariners’ shutout loss at the hands of the Astros.
Crawford also made one of the highlight reel-worthy defensive plays of the entire season in the seventh inning of this one, flipping the ball to double-play partner Dylan Moore to rob Mauricio Dubón of a surefire single up the middle. The 29-year-old shortstop is batting .231 (9-for-39) with one homer and one steal since returning from the injured list back on May 20.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #71
Josh Hader struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday against the Mariners.
Hader got the call to protect a four-run advantage in a non-save situation and made things interesting by giving up singles to Julio Rodríguez and Ty France before striking out Dominic Canzone and getting Mitch Haniger to ground out to extinguish the threat. The 30-year-old lefty has allowed just two runs with a 20/4 K/BB ratio across 11 appearances since the start of May. Simply put, he remains one of the few elite closers in the fantasy landscape.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #41
Spencer Arrighetti struck out eight over six shutout innings on Thursday in a win over the Mariners.
Arrighetti put together the strongest performance of his rookie campaign to date, limiting Seattle’s lineup to just a pair of hits and three walks over six nearly-flawless frames. The 24-year-old top pitching prospect generated 14 swinging strikes and finished with a solid 33 percent CSW, out-dueling Mariners ace Logan Gilbert in the process. He’ll bring a 5.98 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 51/23 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings (nine starts) into a home matchup on Tuesday against the Cardinals.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #36
Logan Gilbert allowed four runs over six innings on Thursday in a loss to the Astros.
Gilbert was burned by the long ball in this one as homers by Alex Bregman and Victor Caratini in thr fourth and fifth innings, respectively, accounted for nearly all of the damage against him. He finished with five strikeouts and only issued one walk. It was just the third time in 12 starts this season that he’s surrendered four earned runs or more. He’ll carry a strong 3.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 71/20 K/BB ratio across 76 2/3 innings (12 starts) into a tasty road matchup on Wednesday against the Athletics.
  • SF Center Fielder #80
Giants signed OF Allan Cerda to a minor league contract.
Cerda was cut loose earlier this month by the Reds and has yet to reach the majors. The 24-year-old will presumably head to Double-A Richmond as extra organizational depth.
