Michael King pitched decently in a no-decision against the Pirates on Wednesday evening, surrendering four runs (three earned) on six hits over his five innings of work.
The 29-year-old right-hander was able to pile up seven punchouts on the night while issuing a pair of walks. The Pirates scratched out a pair of runs against him in the opening inning, then added on with an RBI single by Bryan Reynolds in the second and a solo shot from Andrew McCutchen in the fourth. King got 11 whiffs on 94 pitches on the night — six on his changeup — while posting a CSW of 32 percent. He’ll attempt to get back in the win column as he totes a 3.34 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and a 151/47 K/BB ratio (129 1/3 innings) into a rematch against the Pirates on Monday.

Aaron Civale (hamstring) will make a rehab start Thursday for Triple-A Nashville.
Civale suffered a setback from his strained hamstring in the middle of April, but the 29-year-old has progressed enough to get back on the mound. The right-hander will assuredly need multiple outings before coming back to the majors, but he should be ready for the rotation by the end of May if he doesn’t have another setback.
What to expect from Carter upon return to Rangers
With the Rangers recalling Evan Carter from Triple-A, Eric Samulski explains why the former top prospect's power-speed combo still makes him worth rostering in all fantasy formats.

William Contreras is playing with a fractured middle finger on his catching hand.
Contreras had X-rays last night, which revealed the fracture. It is reportedly an old fracture that “has bothered him for some time.” Contreras has played through it and will continue to do so. However, his catching hand is also the lead hand for his swing, so the fracture may be impacting some of his quality of contact. His barrel rate is just 3.1 percent on the season, and his average exit velocity is down almost three mph while posting a career-low hard hit rate. His bat speed has also fallen, with him ranking in the 65th percentile with an average bat speed of 72.8 mph after posting a 74.7 mph mark last year.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #38
Rangers signed RHP Cory Abbott to a minor league contract.
Abbott had a 2.40 ERA in 15 innings for los Tecos de los Dos Laredos in the Mexican Independent League, striking out 15 batters and walking eight in an extremely hitter-friendly environment. He’s the third player signed out of the Mexican Independent League this week, with the Rangers also signing Robert Dugger and the Dodgers signing Nick Senzel. Abbott figures to join the starting rotation for Triple-A Round Rock.
  • HOU Left Fielder #44
Yordan Alvarez (hand) was diagnosed with a muscle strain on the top of his right hand.
The injury was previously reported as “inflammation,” but now we know that the inflammation is the result of a strain. Astros manager Joe Espada said the diagnosis was “good news,” and the team still hopes Alvarez will have a minimum stint on the IL, but he’ll obviously need to wait for the strained muscle or tendon to heal, which might take more than a week depending on the severity of the strain.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #85
Royals signed RHP Stephen Nogosek to a minor league contract.
The 30-year-old last appeared in an MLB game for the Mets back in 2023. He was in the Nationals organization last season, but was released in May after posting a 9.77 ERA in 15 2/3 innings. He has a 5.02 career ERA in 57 1/3 MLB innings and figures to serve as organizational depth for the Royals’ bullpen.
  • LAD Center Fielder #15
Nick Senzel is playing third base and batting fifth for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old was signed out of the Mexican Independent League after hitting .591/.654/1.136 in 26 plate appearances with three home runs and 10 RBI. He’ll likely serve as a utility player in Triple-A and be a fallback option for the Dodgers at multiple spots in the field.
  • SF Shortstop #50
Christian Koss is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Giants on Wednesday against the Cubs.
After Koss was on the bench on Tuesday, he’ll be right back in the lineup on Wednesday. The 27-year-old has gone 7-for-37 so far this season with 11 strikeouts and is not an option in fantasy leagues.
  • MIL 2nd Baseman #2
Brice Turang is not in the starting lineup for the Brewers on Wednesday against the Astros.
The Brewers are facing left-hander Framber Valdez, so they are opting to go with a more right-handed-heavy lineup with Vinny Capra at third base and Caleb Durbin shifting to second base. However, Turang had started against a left-hander on Sunday, and the Brewers had Turang on the bench on Monday, so he has now sat out two of the last three games. It’s likely nothing to worry about, but is just interesting to note.
  • MIL Right Fielder #10
Sal Frelick (knee) is out for the third straight game on Wednesday against the Astros.
The Brewers have called Frelick day-to-day and were encouraged by his MRI results, but he will not be in the starting lineup again on Wednesday. Daz Cameron will start in right field and bat fifth.
  • PIT Shortstop #31
Liover Peguero is starting at shortstop and batting ninth for the Pirates on Wednesday against the Cardinals.
Peguero was recalled on Friday and was on the bench for the first three games he was in Pittsburgh before starting the last two, one at second base and one at shortstop. Peguero was once one of the top prospects in Pittsburgh’s system, but he was hitting just .258 with a .691 OPS in Triple-A this season. Still, it might make sense for Pittsburgh to give him more at-bats than Adam Frazier and Jared Triolo in a season where they are not going to compete for the playoffs.
