Matthew Borchert shot 3-under-par 73-73-71-68=285 in the first stage of Q School at Grasslands Golf & Country Club in Lakelane, Fla., but fell short of advancing by nine strokes.

Borchert is a one-time member of the PGA TOUR, going 4-for-19 to rank 234th on the money list in 2009. Fellow former members Travis Perkins (6-under 282) and David Branshaw (2-under 286) were also eliminated at this site. Nineteen golfers advanced to the second stage, including co-medalists Sihwan Kim and Brandon Brown. They posted 20-under 268. The cut fell at 12-under 276.

Matthew Borchert has been added to the field of the Turning Stone Resort Championship.

Borchert will need an amazing Fall Series if he is to retain his card after missing the cut in 13 of his 17 starts in this year’s Tour.
