Jason Kipnis considered day-to-day with hamstring issue

Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis is not in Saturday night’s lineup against the Twins, his second consecutive day off after experiencing soreness in his right hamstring in the eighth inning of Thursday’s game against the Astros. The club is considering Kipnis day-to-day and remain hopeful he’ll be able to start on Sunday, per MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian. They could even use him off of the bench later in Saturday’s contest.

With the Indians realistically out of playoff contention and only eight games remaining after tonight, it may behoove them to simply shut Kipnis down for the season, but it seems as if they don’t believe the injury to be serious enough as to be exacerbated.

Kipnis has had a forgettable season, hitting .242/.314/.332 with six home runs, 41 RBI, and 22 stolen bases -- a far cry from his production last season.
