Cubs third base prospect Kris Bryant will likely be used in the outfield this week, MLB.com’s Carrie Muskat reports. Bryant has been limited at third base due to fatigue in his right shoulder. The Cubs have an off-day on Monday, then travel to play the Athletics on Tuesday, which is likely when Bryant will head to the outfield.
Manager Joe Maddon said that Bryant was “all for it” when he informed him of the idea. Maddon continued, saying, “I think he understands the ability to play more than one position, how that benefits you in the future as a Major League Baseball player.”
Bryant has set the baseball world on fire this spring, as he currently leads all hitters with eight home runs and 14 RBI in 25 at-bats. The Cubs have planned to have him start the season at Triple-A Iowa. It remains to be seen if that plan will change at all.
