Marlins have had talks with Michael Morse

Michael Morse AP

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins have engaged with free agent Michael Morse recently. Jackson adds that the club prefers to go the free agent route for a first baseman as opposed to trading pitching, such as Henderson Alvarez or Jarred Cosart.

With Melky Cabrera now off the board, Morse is one of only a few enticing hitters remaining in free agency. The list becomes even more dour when you limit to first basemen.

Morse would certainly be a boon to the Marlins if he’s able to replicate his production from the 2014 season. He hit .279/.336/.475 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI in 482 plate appearances.
