Per John Lott, the Blue Jays in a press release on Sunday announced that second baseman Devon Travis undervent an MRI which revealed a bone bruise with “a very small flap of cartilage caught in the joint.” As a result, Travis will “most likely” need arthroscopic knee surgery. However, he will first be reevaluated when the swelling subsides. The club expects him to be ready for spring training next year.
It’s not clear when Travis suffered the injury, though it was likely at the very end of the regular season or early in the postseason. Darwin Barney has been handling second base when Travis has been out of the lineup.
Travis has just one single in 12 plate appearances in the playoffs thus far. He hit .300/.332/.454 with 11 home runs and 50 RBI in 432 plate appearances during the regular season.
