mudsummer classic

Erik Jones was fastest in the first of two Wednesday morning practice sessions for tonight’s 1-800-Car-Cash Mud Summer Classic at Eldora Speedway.

Jones recorded a top speed of 89.454 mph at 20.122 seconds.

Austin Dillon, who won the inaugural Classic two years ago in 2013, was second-fastest (89.299 mph at 20.157 seconds).

Last year’s race winner, Darrell Wallace Jr., is not competing in this year’s event.

Bobby Pierce was third-fastest (88.898 mph at 20.248 seconds).

Christopher Bell (88.443 mph at 20.352 seconds) was fourth-fastest, followed by Truck Series points leader Matt Crafton (88.054 mph at 20.442 seconds).

The track record by a truck is held by veteran racer Ken Schrader (19.709 seconds at 91.329 mph).

The second practice session will run from 11:30 am ET to 12:55 pm ET.

One significant incident occurred in the first practice when Ben Kennedy wrecked his truck after making contact with the outside retaining wall. The team elected to repair the damage, rather than go to a back-up truck.

Qualifying takes place at 5:15 pm ET, followed by a series of five qualifying races from approximately 7 to 8 pm ET.
