Joel Embiid is a giant human, so his getting blocks shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to us. But getting a block on Shabazz Muhammad when he wasn’t really paying all that much attention in the first place? That’s just cool.
Of course, that’s exactly what the Philadelphia 76ers big man did on Tuesday night. With TJ McConnell fronting Muhammad in the block, it was up to Embiid to play help defense should the Minnesota Timberwolves forward acquire the ball.
The Wolves were able to slip the ball into Muhammad, who promptly drove to the rim. Meanwhile, Embiid hadn’t even turned his head toward the action until the ball was already on its way down toward Muhammad.
Embiid was simply checking where his own man was on the play, so no real fault to him on the timing of the pass. But the timing on that block?
All props to Jo-Jo on that one.
