You’ve heard about the women’s draw, but over the NBC’s London 2012 site, Rich Zuckerman’s done the leg work breaking down the men’s draw. Take a look at his analysis.
As for the groups, here you go:
Group A: Team Great Britian, Senegal, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay
Group B: Mexico, South Korea, Gabon, Switzerland
Group C: Brazil, Egypt, Belarus, New Zealand
Group D: Spain, Japan, Honduras, Morocco
The top two get out of each group, which is a relief for Team GB. After Uruguay, the group falls off, and while they’ll see a tough match against the Uruguayans, they should get out of their group, if form holds.
Group B’s pretty amazing. Mexico’s going to be seen as the favorite, but with South Korea and Switzerland in their quartet, a slip could see them finish third. Given the trouble Mexico had in the CONCACAF qualifying final against Honduras, it’s not hard to see them stumbling to either the Swiss or the Koreans. Beyond that trio, you have Africa’s U-23 champions, Gabon. This is easily the most dangerous group.
Brazil’s going to be spectacular, with Neymar leading the charge. For Egypt, the tournament could have special meaning, with their domestic cup competition recently cancelled because of post-Port Said security concerns.
In the final group, Spain and Japan should be heavy favorites to get out, but as Rich points out, slips are known to happen in these types of tournaments.
