Vieira on NYCFC: “I really want to play really attractive football”

Labeling it a “massive challenge”, new boss Patrick Vieira is taking over New York City FC.

The longtime Arsenal hero and recent leader of the Manchester City reserve side is taking his first steps in Major League Soccer.

Vieira gave his first interview with NYCFC.com, and the first part was posted on the club’s web site. The big ex-midfielder says the club is aiming for silverware due to its high talent, and that he wants it to look good, too.

From NYCFC.com:

“I really want to play attractive football, really offensive football. I would like to create chances, to score goals. This is the way I grew up as a player and as a manager I will push the team to do it.”

Jason Kreis is one heck of a manager. To do a better job than his predecessor, Vieira will have to adapt to MLS quickly. That’s proven difficult for many foreign bosses, but Vieira should have a better handle on something Kreis was said to struggle with: the expectations of elite world footballers like David Villa and Andrea Pirlo.
