Albert Pujols slugged career home run No. 703 Monday in Pittsburgh.
Mitch Keller retired Pujols in each of his first two plate appearances, but in the sixth inning he hung a curveball and the future Hall of Famer lined it over the left-field wall for a two-run shot. Pujols had been tied with Babe Ruth on the all-time RBI list but now is in the No. 2 spot by himself with 2,216. He’s gone deep in back-to-back games and his 16 homers since August 14 are more than anyone else in baseball (yes, including Aaron Judge’s 15).

Cooper Hummel has elected free agency.
What a whirlwind of a season it has been for Hummel. Twice in the last two weeks he has signed one-year contracts with the Orioles, only to get designated for assignment a day or two later. This time, rather than accepting the outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk, he has decided to test his luck on the open market, and you really can’t blame him for doing so. Expect him to land on his feet elsewhere in a couple of days.
'Hold on' to Braves' Harris II in fantasy leagues
Despite Michael Harris II's disappointing numbers thus far, Eric Samulski highlights why fantasy managers should still find a roster spot for the Braves' outfielder.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #38
Robbie Ray allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings in a win over the Padres on Thursday.
The left-hander struck out nine and walked one while posting a 40 percent whiff rate and 40 percent CSW on the day. He dominated the Padres with his changeup and showed great command of the four-seamer in this one. It was another in a long line of great starts for Ray, who will now carry a 2.44 ERA into a start in Coors Field. He’s been too good to bench for that one.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #84
Dylan Cease allowed three runs on five hits in five innings in a loss to the Giants on Thursday.
He also struck out seven and walked three while posting a 48 percent whiff rate and 41 percent CSW. Cease was missing plenty of bats today, but he only had a 50 percent zone rate with the four-seam fastball, which led to some walks and deeper counts than he would have preferred. Still, this start had more good than bad in it, and it seems like Cease is set for a strong run of performance in the near future. It may not start next week against the Dodgers though.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #66
Tanner Scott threw a scoreless ninth to get the save in a 6-5 win over the Mets on Thursday.
Scott did allow a two-out single to Francisco Alvarez, but was able to get Luisangel Acuna to fly out to end the game and earn his 11th save of the season. It hasn’t been smooth sailing for Scott this season, and Kirby Yates is set to return this weekend, which could mean more of a save share than Scott has had up until this point in the season. Both he and Kirby need to be rostered in all league types for now.
  • NYM Right Fielder #6
Starling Marte went 3-for-4 with a walk, a home run, and two runs scored against the Dodgers on Thursday.
Marte took Landon Knack deep for his fourth home run of the season and now has 15 RBI to go with a .240/.350/.394 slash line. It hasn’t been a great season so far for the 36-year-old, but with Mark Vientos on the IL, Marte only has to beat out Ronny Mauricio for regular starts at DH. He could provide some value in the short-term if he gets hot.
  • NYM 1st Baseman #20
Pete Alonso went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored in a loss to the Dodgers on Thursday.
Alonso sent a 110.3 mph blast 408 feet for his 15th home run of the season. He also added a 112.6 mph single and is seeing the ball incredibly well of late, with four home runs in his last four games. He’s in the middle of a career-best season.
  • LAD Catcher #16
Will Smith went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored against the Mets on Thursday.
Smith is a bit of a forgotten man because the Dodgers have so many high-profile stars, but he’s hitting .327/.434/.494 on the season with 33 RBI. He’s been hitting in the middle of the order for the Dodgers and remains one of the safest bets at the catcher position.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #96
Landon Knack allowed four runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Thursday.
Knack also walked five and struck out just one while allowing three home runs. He has a 5.12 ERA on the season and has shown little fantasy value other than pitching for the Dodgers. We’d recommend looking elsewhere in most fantasy formats.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #23
David Peterson allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Thursday.
Peterson seemed to be cruising to a win before this Mets bullpen allowed three runs in the eighth inning to cough up the game. The left-hander struck out six on the day while walking two and posting a 29 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW. He got plenty of whiffs on his slider, and the four-seamer controlled the zone for much of the day. Peterson has been great this year, with a 2.80 ERA so far. He’s in a good spot against the Nationals next week.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #43
Bryan Baker pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn a save and preserve a 4-3 win over the Mariners on Thursday.
Baker now has two saves on the season, and both of them have come this week. Felix Bautista was unavailable after throwing 27 pitches in back-to-back appearances in the two previous games, but it’s nice to know that Baker is the clear second option in Baltimore. The Orioles aren’t going to want to tax Bautista too much in his first year back from injury, so if this team starts to string together some wins, Baker could steal a few saves.
