  • CWS Catcher #26
Korey Lee went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI on Saturday in a 6-5 win over the Cardinals.
Lee led off the second inning with a double, then drove in two runs to tie the game with a base hit in the sixth. The 25-year-old backstop is emerging as a solid offensive catcher for the White Sox, slashing .271/.306/.475 with three homers across 62 plate appearances.
  • BAL Third Baseman #86
Orioles 3B prospect Coby Mayo is back in the lineup on Tuesday for Triple-A Norfolk.
Mayo is back in the upper minors after wrapping up a brief rehab stint with High-A Aberdeen. The 22-year-old top prospect has been out since mid-May recovering from a fractured rib that he suffered in a dangerous-looking dugout collision. There’s a strong possibility he arrives in the majors at some point later this summer.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #36
Yankees transferred RHP Clarke Schmidt to the 60-dau injured list.
Nothing has changed regarding Schmidt’s return timetable as the procedural move merely opens up a spot on New York’s 40-man roster. The 28-year-old righty has been on the shelf since late May recovering from a right lat strain and is first-eligible to return on July 26.
  • LAD Third Baseman #27
Miguel Vargas is in left field and batting eighth for Tuesday’s game against the Rockies.
Vargas draws his first start for the Dodgers since being recalled earlier this week from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 24-year-old post-hype prospect tore the cover off the ball earlier this year in the minors and appears poised to finally get an extended shot in Los Angeles with Mookie Betts likely to miss at least two months.
  • LAA Shortstop #2
Luis Rengifo (wrist) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Brewers.
Rengifo came off the bench as a pinch-hitter during Monday’s contest and is back in the lineup following a brief absence due to a left wrist contusion. He appears to have avoided serious injury and shouldn’t miss any additional time moving forward.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #55
Alex Lange is scheduled to undergo surgery next week for a right lat avulsion.
Lange was optioned to the minors last month after a bizarre incident on the mound during a relief appearance when he hurled a baseball into the protective netting above Detroit’s dugout in a moment of frustration. His season is most likely over.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #31
The Athletic’s Jim Bowden reports Max Scherzer (back, thumb) will make his season debut on Saturday against the Royals.
It’s a soft landing spot for Scherzer, who is finally set to make his season debut after undergoing offseason back surgery and dealing with a nerve-related thumb issue during his rehabilitation process. The 39-year-old veteran isn’t the fantasy stalwart anymore from earlier in his career, but can still make an impact for fantasy managers on a per-start basis moving forward.
  • STL Shortstop #0
Masyn Winn has been scratched from the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Marlins due to illness.
Winn delivered the go-ahead homer for St. Louis in the 12th inning of Monday’s extra-inning marathon against the Marlins and has occupied the leadoff spot in six straight contests. It’ll be Brendan Donovan taking over atop the lineup and Brandon Crawford covering at shortstop. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • LAA Center Fielder #27
Mike Trout (knee) told reporters Tuesday that he hasn’t resumed running and remains without a definitive return timeline.
Trout added that his recovery from last month’s surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee has been progressing slower than he wants, which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that he’ll make it back at any point in the near future. The 32-year-old generational talent is roughly six weeks removed from the procedure and there isn’t any sort of timeline for his potential return at this juncture.
  • HOU Left Fielder #44
Yordan Alvarez is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the White Sox.
The positive news here for fantasy managers is that Alvarez is healthy and it’s merely a routine off day. The 26-year-old slugger, who boasts a stellar .873 OPS with 14 homers and a career-high three steals this season through 71 games, is getting a break for the first time since May 18.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #32
Steven Matz will receive a second opinion on his back later this week.
It certainly qualifies as a setback as Matz was lifted from his latest rehab outing over the weekend with renewed back soreness. The 33-year-old southpaw has been on the shelf since late April with a back strain and appeared to be close to returning to the Cardinals’ starting rotation mix. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in the coming days, but he’s probably not going to be back anytime soon.
