Orioles transferred RHP Tyler Wells from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.
Wells is out for the season and probably the first half of 2025 after having his UCL repaired earlier this week.
  • NYY 2nd Baseman #26

DJ LeMahieu, on the IL with a calf strain, is beginning a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset.
It sounded like this would happen about a week ago, but everyone is still taking things slowly here. The Yankees have thus far gotten a .263/.333/.342 line from their third basemen. LeMahieu has hit .252/.336/.362 over the last four seasons.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #63
The newly acquired Scott Blewett will get the start for the Braves in Tuesday’s game against the Cardinals.
It’ll be Blewett’s first big-league start after 21 relief appearances. He threw 43 pitches over 2 2/3 innings in his last outing for the Orioles four days ago. Perhaps he could throw up to three innings tonight before the Braves call to the pen, perhaps for Nathan Wiles.
  • DET Right Fielder #30
Kerry Carpenter is back in the Tigers lineup as a DH on Tuesday after missing Monday’s game with right hamstring soreness.
With Carpenter limited, Justyn-Henry Malloy is making a rare start in right. It’s just his second start in the field this season. Somewhat surprisingly, Zach McKinstry is getting the night off against a righty.
  • COL Catcher #15
Hunter Goodman is making a sixth straight start at DH against the Royals on Tuesday.
This might work out fine for Goodman’s short-term fantasy value, but if he’s not a catcher, he might fall short of being a long-term regular for the Rockies. He’s hit .234/.329/.422 in 73 plate appearances this season, giving him a career line of .200/.251/.412 in 374 plate appearances. It’s also probably bad news for Michael Toglia, who would be getting some competition at first base if Goodman ceases to catch. Toglia has been a true bust this season, hitting .181/.211/.264, and his career line is down to .203/.280/.391 in 806 plate appearances. Since Goodman stopped catching, the Rockies have given Jacob Stalling four starts and Braxton Fulford two starts behind the plate.
  • ATH 1st Baseman #77
A’s GM David Forst said he doesn’t see Nick Kurtz being used as a platoon player initially.
Kurtz is with the A’s for tonight’s game against the Rangers and Patrick Corbin, but he’s not going to be activated until Wednesday. The A’s haven’t said who is being demoted to make room for him, but fellow left-handed hitter Seth Brown seems like the obvious choice.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #66
Red Sox activated RHP Brayan Bello from the 15-day injured list.
Back from a shoulder strain, Bello, who had a 7.07 ERA and a 21/4 K/BB in 14 innings over the course of four rehab starts, will make his season debut against the Mariners tonight.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #76
Red Sox optioned RHP Zack Kelly to Triple-A Worcester.
Kelly had a 9.00 ERA in 10 innings of relief work, even though he has a fine 11/2 K/BB and had allowed just one homer. He’ll be back.
  • CLE Center Fielder #8
Guardians placed OF Lane Thomas on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Apr. 19, with a bone bruise in his right wrist.
Thomas missed six games with the injury suffered Apr. 8 on a HBP before returning to start three straight games last week. He’d been on the bench in three games since, though that seemed to be more about his lack of performance than the wrist. Angel Martínez, who appeared to be taking over as the center fielder against righties anyway, should be in that spot nearly every day while Thomas is out. Daniel Schneeman becomes the backup.
  • CLE 3rd Baseman #77
Guardians selected the contract of INF Will Wilson from Triple-A Columbus.
It would have been hard to envision this day a few months ago, but the 26-year-old Wilson, an apparent first-round bust who hit .216/.299/.296 between Double- and Triple-A in the Giants system last year, had a great spring after signing a minor league deal with the Guardians and kept it going by hitting .324/.418/.647 with six homers and a 15/10 K/BB in 79 plate appearances for Columbus. He’ll serve as an infield utiltyman and probably get some of the starts that had been going to Daniel Schneeman.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #37
Guardians transferred RHP Trevor Stephan from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.
Stephan, who had Tommy John surgery in Mar. 2023, is expected to begin throwing bullpens in the coming weeks. He’s probably in line for a June return if things go as hoped.
