MLS: The final standings and playoff picture

Decision Day has come to a close, as the regular season of MLS play is officially over.

From 20 teams, the field has been trimmed down to 12, with the MLS Playoffs beginning this week.

Below we take a look at who’s headed to the postseason, and what the first round matchups will be.

Eastern Conference


  1. New York Red Bulls
  2. Columbus Crew SC
  3. Montreal Impact
  4. D.C. United
  5. New England Revolution
  6. Toronto FC
  7. Orlando City SC (eliminated)
  8. New York City FC (eliminated)
  9. Philadelphia Union (eliminated)
  10. Chicago Fire (eliminated)

The top two seeds (RBNY and Columbus) have a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

The following are the knockout-round playoff matchups in the Eastern Conference. It is one match, hosted at the higher seed.

#3 Montreal Impact vs. #6 Toronto FC

#4 D.C. United vs. #5 New England Revolution

Western Conference

  3. Portland Timbers
  4. Seattle Sounders
  5. Los Angeles Galaxy

  10. Colorado Rapids (eliminated)
