Sunderland 1-1 Bournemouth: Black Cats happy with a point

Sunderland and Bournemouth went head-to-head at the Stadium of Light for a game that Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce considered a must-win.

Sunderland and Bournemouth played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday at the Stadium of Light with Benik Afobe’s early goal canceled out by Patrick van Aanholt’s equalizer.

The Black Cats were the happier of the two teams as Bournemouth had several chances to win the game and Eddie Howe will be disappointed to head back to the South Coast without all three points.

With the point Sunderland remain in the bottom three and have 19 points, while Bournemouth have 25 points.

Bournemouth came flying out of the traps and after Afobe went close the former Wolves and Arsenal striker soon scored his second goal in as many games.

Charlie Daniels’ magnificent cross found Afobe and his diving header put the Cherries 1-0 up.

After going ahead Bournemouth continued to press with Junior Stanislas giving Sunderland’s defense plenty of problems.

Despite being pinned back, Sunderland equalized just before half time as Van Aanholt scored for the second-straight game. 1-1. Game on.

In the second half Sunderland pushed forward but both teams somewhat canceled each other out with the home team happy to take a point against an in-form Bournemouth side.

In the 83rd minute Stanislas took one touch to steady himself and was clean through but fired his shot wide when he should have put Bournemouth 2-1 up. A glaring miss.

That was to be the final chance of the game as both teams had to settle for a point.
