Taits was still in a lot of pain after the game, and there’s still the chance he’ll miss some time. That’d be a big problem for a Padres team that punted on adding depth in the offseason. Brandon Lockridge could start in his place Friday.

Edman drew a pair of walks as well for a four-reach night. He drove in a run in the ninth with a single, and came around to score on an error from Martin Maldonado. Edman’s slash improved to .256/.299/.463 in the process, and he’s plated 38 runners thus far in 2025.

Bogaerts also scored three runs. His homer in the second was a solo shot off Yoshinobu Yamamoto while adding a double and a single. The 32-year-old has been ineffective for the overwhelming majority of the 2025 season, and came into Thursday’s contest with a slash for the month of June of .188/.232/.250. Bogaerts is no longer a fantasy stalwart, but there’s just enough games like this to believe he can provide some fireworks for the second half of the campaign.

Matsui did issue a walk, but he was able to fan Dalton Rushing to end the game. The Padres entered the ninth with a 5-0 cushion, but both Sean Reynolds and Robert Suarez were unable to keep the Dodgers off the board. It’s especially concerning to see Suarez struggle again, as this is his third-straight appearance where he’s allowed a run. The Padres may need to turn to Matsui and Jason Adam if these struggles continue, but neither pitcher should be rostered just yet.

It’s worth noting that Yamamoto should have had an immaculate inning Thursday, but Marvin Hudson had one of the worst misses you’ll see from a home plate umpire on a pitch down the middle. The right-hander was mostly effective in the outing and pounded the strike zone with 70-of-100 pitches landing, but a quality start went wasted with yet another poor offensive performance with Yamamoto on the mound for the Dodgers. It will be hard for them not to score runs in his next scheduled start against the Rockies in Colorado.

Bergert certainly pitched well enough to win, but he was unable to get the final out in the fifth to give him that honor. Still, it was a solid effort for the 25-year-old, one that saw him allow just three hits with three strikeouts against one walk. Bergert now has a 1.88 ERA, and it’s probably time to take him seriously for those who haven’t already. He’s absolutely worthy of consideration against the Nationals next week.

Is it time to stop worrying about Wilson’s power? That’s the ninth of the season for the rookie wunderkind, and his slugging percentage is up to .509 in his first full year. He’s picked up those homers with a barrel rate of 2.7 percent and a hard-hit percentage of 26.6, but the results are the results. Wilson also singled to bump his average to .359. If only he stole more bases.

Wow. It’s another homer for Kurtz in a clutch situation, with this one coming off All-Star closer Josh Hader in extra-innings. The 22-year-old has gone deep in four of his last five games, and all have come in the ninth inning or later. Kurtz hasn’t drawn a walk in the month of June, but the aggressiveness has been paying off with a .636 slugging percentage in that time. He has a chance to be a special offensive player if everything comes to gether. This version’s pretty good, too.

Caratini came up against Mason Miller with a pair of runners on base, and launched his sixth homer of the year to tie the game at 4-4. He went hitless with three strikeouts in his other at-bats, but fantasy managers will take three-run homer games regardless of the other results. Caratini was awful to begin June, but the results are starting to turn around.

Miller came in to attempt to clean up a mess and pick up a four-out save, but he instead blew his third of the season by allowing a three-run homer to Victor Caratini. He did pitch a scoreless ninth, but the damage was done. Miller looked ever-so-dominant to begin the year, but he’s been tough to trust based on his teams lack of wins and his lack of consistent success.
